Happy belated Mother’s Day to “paw“tastic women all over the world who do so much for so many!
After visiting my mother earlier in the day, I decided to do “nothing” the remainder of Sunday and enjoy my family – the two and four legged members! I am so glad I did. The Boys were in rare form (don’t know why that should have surprised me), and they performed and entertained me all afternoon. Best Mother’s Day gift ever!
It started when I went to get my phone out of the…

I just talked to my vet about Gus who is almost 14 years old and the decision was made....I can't stop crying!
Gus has been my shadow for since he was 6 weeks old (too early but I didn't know better then). He follows me EVERY WHERE I go. I have not been able to use the bathroom by myself for all the years he's owned me. His spot in bed was just behind my legs. He has been my couch buddy, my leg warmer, the door bell, dog dish collector, and shoe/slipper thief. If he's not on the…

I haven't had much time in the past to blog until now. Spuds is our new 14 half week old F2 Mini Golden Doodle. Thanks to Doodle Kisses and the internet I am trying to train him early in his life. Today, I have learned that he is the Alpha dog and I am a peon in his pack. LOL. Funny but true. He cries in his crate, I comfort him. He will not eat on his own, I hand feed him. Get the picture. Well today is a new day.
We started with a walk where he walked almost behind me the…

We have new neighbors a couple of houses up on the other side of the street. I noticed this morning that there was a young pit bull looking dog in their yard, trying to dig his way under the gate. He'd gotten his head and part of a shoulder out. Nobody was home at his house. I took a big piece of firewood over and stuffed it under the gate, which seemed to scare him away from that spot.
I'd been out for most of the afternoon, and had company later on. Looking out, I saw the dog…

I have gotten a picture of each of the 7 pups now that they are over 12 weeks old--and would like to share them with you--some you have already seen as Cisco is owned by a new DKer (Kim Starbuck) and Lucy's picture was featured in the last blog post--but it is nice to see them all together, so I will include those...such a lovely litter--and they were so well behaved--but, it IS NICE to have my life back....
Sophie (formerly Saffron)…

I found out that “Harley-Darly” is a descendant from the canine side of the Houdini family!
Harry Houdini evidently had a Goldenddoodle back in the early 19th century. He and this Doodle were undoubtedly close and together all the time. Like the Bush Beans talking dog that always wants to tell the secret family…

I hate ticks and as far as I can tell, they have no real purpose in life other than to gross us out. Last week, however, I discovered the one thing they may be useful for and that would be as an icebreaker. Say for example I walked into a party where I didn’t know anybody and wasn’t sure how to get the conversation rolling.…

On Tuesday, Milt and I visited the dog park together, like usual. With the hot
summer weather blowing in, rather than walking to the grassy part of the park,
Milt has been tugging and yanking to run to the swimming portion. It really is
rather nice that the park is located right on a lake.
To clarify,…

Darwin is 4 years old today! I am always surprised how fast each year goes, but this year I'm really shocked. How can he be 4??
As we were taking him for a birthday romp yesterday, a group of neighborhood kids ran up to us in the street to say hi. They all loved him and fawned over him and Darwin enjoyed the attention. On the way back from our romp we heard calls and cheers of "Darwin, Darwin!" as we passed by like he was a celebrity. That made him really happy, his tail was…

If you’ve only read a couple of blog posts or looked at only a hand full of photos you’ve seen “Wilson.” I cannot quote an exact date as to when “Wilson” joined our family, but I am pretty sure it was shortly after Leo arrived which was the fall of 2010. It is probably safe to say “Wilson’s” date of birth is somewhere around the Spring of 2011.
I remember the first walk the four of us (Harley, Leo, Wilson and I) took together……

For the past week, Milton has been waking up Jeff and me around three or four in the morning to use the potty. We don't know if his tummy has just been upset recently or if we are giving him food and water too late in the evening. Milt tends to greatly fluctuate with the consistency of his number twos. Regardless, these bathroom runs are becoming an unpleasant routine for all three of us. It is actually not too terrible though because we no longer have to walk…

We went to an adoption event today with our Scottish Terrier + Maltese cross: Terra (for terrier) and her three male puppies: Huey, Dewey and Louie. Terra, Dewey and Louie got adopted. I brought one puppy home. We now have no adult fosters in our home and just three puppies. That is being empty nesters for the Crowe house...
We will probably keep our numbers down since we are traveling to Venice, Greece and Istanbul soon and also we have additional fosters to help us.

I love the weekends because the pace is different. No one is getting up early to head off to work and I am not getting up early because I forgot to pack the someone’s lunch who heads off to work. My dogs love when everyone is home and Vern seems to up his walk bys just to see if Dad is still in bed.…

I have been working a lot of overtime and so for the first time 2 months or so ago I took Murphy to a groomer that was recommended to me. They did a nice job at a reasonable price. Well a week ago I took him there again and I am not happy.....when my wife picked him up they had trimmed his eyebrows short and left his top hi and puffy not natural at all. Soooo....It will grow back and I am going to be grooming him the next time. For now I am going to use the thinning shears and get his top…

Another successful MS Walk is in the books! Duncan walked with me for the second year in a row, and once again I was amazed at how well behaved he was despite the crowds, sights, sounds, and smells. We actually had to stop about half a dozen times so people could take pictures of my handsome boy in his Team Chetta Rita's t-shirt!
Thank you again for the DK members who supported this cause. I was amazed at the generosity of people we have never "officially" met :). Here are a…

It is with great sadness I am posting about the loss of our sweet doodle girl, Bella. She had developed and abscess and colitis in the last week and was battling those infections, all the while the cancer became very aggressive and spread into her spleen. We had to make the decision to help her cross the rainbow bridge this evening. It was the most difficult decision I have ever had to make. It was even more difficult to walk through the door and see all of her "things". My little ones (ages…
