3's a Crowd

Last week, we took our 3 dogs to the vet for their yearly checkups. For some unknown reason, my husband made an appointment for all 3 of them at the same time. Bad idea. He even thought he could handle all 3 dogs by himself.

Ah, nope!

Two humans and 3 dogs cannot fit comfortably into 1 car. So we had to take 2 cars to the vet. I took Penny because my car is newer and I didn't want dog hair all over it. With Lexi and Suzy in a car, their shedded hair just floats in the air. You… Continue

My Dood Gus

I haven''t been on the website in quite some time. Im glad its still going strong. Doodles are the best dogs!!! I wanted to share that I lost my Gus last July. He was 10 yrs old and had gotten a rare tick disease and mustve had an underlying illness because he became anemic. It was also immediately after having a Rabies shot and the Vet said that only progressed things. So it was the hardest day for me as I couldnt bare to see him suffer so we had to let him go. He was my soulmate and I miss…

The Terrible Six and Sevens!!

I recently reunited with a “step” niece after twenty-six years apart.  The separation was through no fault of our own and we were only able to find each other after she finally joined Facebook, for which I will be forever thankful.  The fact that fate moved us within a couple of hours of each other just sealed the deal.  In preparation for her trip to our house, I wrote her and asked what kinds of things she liked to eat.  I burst out laughing when she wrote back that she loved breakfast…

Our Adventures with Molly

Well, it has been an eventful few months on our puppy journey.  Molly is 5 months now and I wanted to update things from my last blog post to hopefully encourage those of you still in the puppy stage.  About a month and a half ago I was so worried about the mouthing  and biting.  She would jump and bite my kids' clothes and me as well at times.  I tried my best to follow Doggy Dan's advice and it did help.  However, I realized when my son came home from his first baseball game and she tore a…

I've decided to continue Paz's legacy and am getting a new doodle

Hi all,

As most of you know, this past Tuesday, my beloved Paz lost his courageous 6 month  battle with lymphoma.  I can't begin to describe the emotional pain I am experiencing, as Paz was such an important part of my life.; my apartment feels absolutely empty without his presence and I keep looking for his face everytime I open my door.  I've decided that I want to honor Paz's memory by continuing his legacy of helping the youngest victims of violent crime and towards that end, I've…

Sleep, Glorious Sleep!

I woke up this morning all by myself.  It was even daylight.  Miracle.  I feel like a new person. When my DH told me it was "only" 5:50 AM I was delighted!

Frankie was going through a bark to go out and then want to eat and play several times in the middle of the night/early like 4am early tirades for about the last week, maybe more.  We took turns going downstairs and letting him out, but then he would not want to go back upstairs, looking to eat at 4 am.  When he did go upstairs,…

Bed of Thorns!

I think the Lord is trying to kill me.  I know I sound just like my mom when I say that, but hear me out.  My mom has the innate ability to make almost any situation about her.  We could have a nuclear disaster and all she would say is, “why does stuff like this always happen on my hair day?” You could tell her you fell and broke every bone in your body and she would counter with, “How do you think I feel? I’m ninety and I can’t get my Netflix to work.” …

Do doodles have a sense of humor?

I have suspected for a while that despite all my efforts (a la Doggy Dan) to establish myself as the leader of the pack, Belle has concluded that I am here for her entertainment.  I carefully refrain from playing with her if she brings me a toy to start her favorite game of fetch, as only I am supposed to initiate play. That doesn't stop her from constantly bringing me a variety of toys she hopes I will throw.  One day, I was standing by a counter folding laundry and suddenly a soggy tennis…

The Forgotten Anniversary

Our puppy was born July 25. So every month, we celebrate her birthday on the 25th. My good friend has Penny's brother, Jeter. (I have several photos of Jeter in my Photos section). I talked to my friend on the morning of 4/25 but we didn't mention our puppies monthly birthday. Later in the day, I realized that we hadn't discussed it so I called my friend back. She was glad I remembered to bring up the babies' birthday. We reminisced about the last 6+ months since we adopted Penny and Jeter. We… Continue

Does Vern have an Innie or Outie?

Weird things have been happening around here and it all started when I dropped my phone.  About a month ago I was at my mom’s and for some stupid reason I threw my phone from the chair I was sitting on to her bed.  I forget my phone a lot, so I was trying to make sure I put it next to my purse and apparently, I was too lazy to walk the 5 feet to make that happen.  My mom and I both watched as my throw fell short and my phone slid off her bed and onto the floor.  That throw cost me $230 for a…

Once Upon a Hammock

Several years ago, we received a hammock for Christmas. It came with a stand (not the kind that ties to trees). Every spring, my husband brings the hammock outside and that's pretty much where the trouble starts. The hammock hates me and is out to get me. One time I sat on it and the laying surface went completely vertical and I landed sitting on my fanny, on the ground, just below it. One time the hammock went an entire 360 degrees and I landed on my fanny again but that time I was like 3 feet… Continue

Learn the heimlich for dogs!

I have an 8 month old doodle, Eli whom I adore. I also have two other dogs, an 11 1/2 year old Yorkshire terrier and a 8 year old Yorkiepoo who are also the loves of my life. Last night my 8 pound yorkiepoo choked on a treat and we almost lost him. Thank goodness for Google! We looked up how to perform the heimlich on dogs. After about 8-10 minutes we were able to dislodge the treat that he had bitten off more than he needed to and swallowed before chewing it up. It was a very traumatic… Continue

Oakley's first haircut!

Before - http://imgur.com/jvaC6X1
After - http://imgur.com/iZZ0S0f

How did I do?! It was my first time grooming a dog! I actually love his hair like this! I used a 1/2 inch blade for his body and I trimmed his legs and his face and I kept a little scruff around his mouth (and I didn't touch his tail!)

It Finally Happened!

Well, it finally happened! People warned me it would, but I didn’t believe it at first. Before I tell you what happened, I need to give you some background information.  Since the moment I have taken up photography, there are only three things I am really interested in photographing…Fudge, Vern, and my grandson, Archer.  Show me the Grand Canyon or Mount Rushmore and I might take a shot or two, but my heart is really not into it.  Usually, I review the shots on my computer and think to…

Ludo Is Eight Months and Went On His First Vacation!

Wow!  It's been a long time since I last wrote a blog on Ludo.

In some ways, a lot has happened, but it's mostly been normal, day-to-day stuff.

Vacation:

The most exciting thing is that Ludo took his first trip to the beach at the end of March.  We stayed in…

Beware of Goldendoodle Puppies Having a Playdate

Of course, as always, when Penny and her brother, Jeter, get together it's non-stop playing and play-fighting. Yesterday was no different. My friend and I watched our two "babies" play for a couple hours, despite it was a mere 46 degrees outside. We sat in the sun but to no avail; I mean, holy moly it was cold! But we delighted in simply watching our puppies have fun. My friend and I chatted and reminisced while our two "indians" rolled around, pinned each other down, ran at full speed, did… Continue

Eli's challenges and doggy daycare help

First of all let me say I LOVE this website and all it's valuable information! I have had dogs all my married life (37 years) but this is my first doodle. Eli has been challenging to say the least. We love and adore him dearly. However, there are a few areas he wears on my last nerve. Eli is 7 1/2 months old and is still nippy when he wants my attention or suddenly decides to attack. He also wants to bite everyone we meet on our walks who thinks he's adorable and wants to pet him. I feel like I… Continue

Belle Makes Progress at Day Care

I wrote a while ago about Belle (14.8 lbs) failing the admission evaluation at doggy day care because she didn't know how to behave with other, mostly bigger, dogs.  The owner of a small local day care on a farm agreed to work with Belle (whom she refers to fondly as her "wackadoodle"). Belle started playing under close supervision with a few calm, small dogs. Gradually she was allowed to run and play (mostly run) with a variety of larger, but trustworthy, dogs.   Belle wants to show you…

A Beautiful Mind?

Our backyard and driveway are on a slight slant. The front of the yard and driveway are uphill and the back is downhill. When I play fetch with Penny everyday, I stand down at the bottom of the driveway and throw the ball up the driveway where Penny fetches the ball, and happily brings it back to me...or she used to, until she got smart. Now this takes some serious thought; I'm not even sure I would have thought of it. LOL! When I throw the ball, she retrieves it and instead of bringing the… Continue

I'm supposed to be Mowgli's boss but I think he's mine.....

Hi everyone! I'm just beginning my doodle journey. I think Mowgli is part Tigger, he's so full of joy and BOUNCE. He is so happy all the time I would very much like to have a sample of whatever he's taking. Yesterday we went to the groomer for a brush and bath, he's only been once before, but he greeted them like he had known them in another lifetime. They love him there. When I try to explain that that much joy can be exhausting they just look at me like I'm a sourpuss. Whatever. Sometimes…
