OK, so I know I'm a proud mama of Nugget, but I wanted to just take a minute to brag on her and remind everyone how great these dogs are. I had laparoscopic surgery on Monday (I'm fine and I won't bore you with the details) and Nugget's routine really went from highly active to almost completely sedentary overnight. My DH took Monday and Tuesday off, so Nugget still got her walks, but on Wed AM after everyone else went off to work or school, Nugget and I were on our own. On a normal day, we'd…

Asked my sister in law to come over and de-matt a blob on one his ears. I mean this started out small, and blossomed into a great big one like over night. She was over today and took care of that issue, and also trimmed his face. His face looks very neat now, but resembles a raccoons face. Instead of a black mask, it is like a light colored mask. Need to take a picture and post to show what I am talking about, maybe tonight or not.

Attention all Portland dog owners!
There is an outbreak of kennel cough in our area. I don't know how severe this strain is, but it is spreading very quickly! Last night for our CGC test, we had to wipe all doggy and people feet in disinfectant and the dogs were not allowed to go near each other! I have also heard that some doggy daycares are shutdown in our area to help stop the spread.
I will not be taking Coop to the dog park for a while, and doggy daycare is out!
I will also…

Haley started throwing up last week. First time it was no concern. Large blade of grass and a couple of very tiny things that looked like chips of pine bark nuggets. He has been stealing the nuggets out of my flower border. Then Friday morning as DH and I were about to leave for an all day outing (no pets allowed) to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary Haley threw up a portion of his breakfast. We though he was upset because we were leaving him.…

My huggable, lovable, goofball Doodle showed an amazing side today.
To backtrack: Penny gets along with just about every dog (and definitely every human) she encounters. She's had a Rottweiler roll over on his back for her, a German Shepard give her a Christmas present, and tolerated a wacky Boxer jumping all over her while she just stands there (and I swear she rolls her eyes).
There is one dog, however, she cannot abide. The grown son of our neighbors sometimes brings his…

Brogan's forever family is driving up from Florida this Sunday. The dad has already gotten Brogan a new leash, collar, and blanket. Their hearts are ready to fill the empty spot left by the passing of their German Short-haired Pointer. They are big roller-bladers so Brogan will be getting lots of exercise. They have signed him up for obedience classes and will continue to work with him to overcome his digging habit.
Brogan has been a great foster and I know one young doodle who is…

Lately, Charlie looked like she was getting wider and her neck looked as it was thicker. May be because of all of the snow and lack of exercises, she had picked up few pounds. She and I really need to start walking miles to shed those pounds!!
Well, I picked her up from groomer's this afternoon, and Voila!! She was as skinny as she can be!! Underneath all that fur, she was still a skinny little…

Yesterday was quite a day. Now I know why I'm such an advocate of early spay/neuter (like before you even pick them up). It was Murphy's day to lose his manhood, and let me say he is NOT A HAPPY CAMPER! I brought him to the Vet yesterday morning at 8:00. It was awful. He was scared from the time we walked in the door. He just "hugged my legs", and then when the Vet Tech came to get him he got really upset. I felt so bad leaving him. I worried all day,…

The dogs and I were out walking on one of our local trails this morning when Lilo suddenly stopped in her tracks, sat down, and looked up (both she and Rocky were besides me, offleash). She refused to move, so we all stopped and looked up - I didn’t see anything at first, but just then, a very large branch broke off a birch tree and crashed down on the trail right in front of us where it broke into…

Yesterday we took the pack to our local dog park. I was not sure how Brogan would react to all the other dogs at the park. He was a bit reluctant to climb into the car; I had to pick him up and put him in the back seat (Let me tell you, he's no light weight). But who could blame him, the only other car rides he has had probably weren't great experiences. To the shelter in Dothan, AL where his previous owners had dumped him, then a tag team of car rides across Alabama and Georgia to join us; and…

Wilbur will now be picked up by his family this coming weekend. Sadly, there was a death in his new family and the memorial service was Friday 4-23.
Callie and I get to enjoy the Wilbs for one more week. Wilbur is thoughtfully easing the transition by being super naughty! I now I have to keep the kitchen doors shut because he pulls everything off the counter and he ate my very favorite pair of summer shoes (while I was sitting on the sofa right above him. Note to self - don't…

Cooper is taking his Canine Good Citizen test this coming Wednesday! I am excited, and have spent a lot of the weekend practicing. I believe he will pass...but I guess you just never know! He does well when greeting most people, but every once in a while he jumps right up on them? Don't know why? At any rate the test is at the training facility we go to, and he does great there....so I think we will be fine!
Anybody have any last minute tips or tricks? I am going to take him out and run run…

Today DH, Quincy and I went for our sunday walk and game of fetch. We remembered to bring the ball but not the launcher. I throw like a girl and my DH can't throw far enough to make it enough of a challenge for Quincy. We found a broken branch that would work as a bat and started our own baseball team. My husband was the pitcher, I was at bat and Quincy played the outfield. Apparently I not only throw like a girl, I bat like a girl too and soon lost my turn at bat. I am a better pitcher than…

It's beginning to warm up in Texas, so I've been walking Shelby in the morning and evening (as the sun goes down). This morning was one of those mornings when it would appear Shelby (who is almost 6 months) has never had any obedience training. The birds, the blowing leaves and everything else seemed to be too exciting for her to exhibit any self control during about 1/2 of our walk.
Shelby decided to take her dietary needs in to her own hands this morning. She ate a dead…

But this was very different than the usual opossum encounters we have every spring & summer. DD went to the garage to get something out of my car. She came back in the house to tell me there was a baby opossum in the garage. Because we have a cat door installed we always get young opossums this time of year taking advantage of an easy dinner of cat food. But this time it truly was a baby opossum. I could hold it in one gloved hand. It was pretty obvious that the little guy was too young to…

Samson met his first relative. My mother in law and my neice stopped by the campground today. My mother in law is in LOVE with Samson (Samson visits her retirement village apartment every once in a while) and she just thinks he's the greatest dog! So, when my niece visited and brought her new puppy Adelle, she could not wait to get them together. Samson has not met many dogs yet. And has not had a play date with one, or has never gone to a dog park. He just… Continue

I'm sure you are all getting really sick of my blogs by now. Who could blame you...I'm a little sick of them too. Things just keep happening....LOL. Today was our second Therapy Dog "practice session" at the Alzheimers Facility, and today Guinness and I were on our own (no trainer). When we got there we saw many of the same patients we had originally met last week. Guinness seemed to be very calm and happy today...tail wagging from the time we went through the door. I was also feeling WAY more…
