Dealing with the heat!

The excessive heat in Washington DC area has really put a damper on Maisy's activities!  She seems to slow down as it is when summer arrives, but with temperatures in the 100's in recent days, I have had to cut back on Maisy's walks.  The worst part about this is not the lack of activity...yes, she is now getting on everyone's nerves in the house with her pent-up-energy-filled outbursts, but the worst part is the look she gives me when she knows it should… Continue

Learning to speak dog...

Not really a play pose...

No mistaking this message!

Trav and I had an interesting couple of days house and pet sitting for a friend. I’ve been a little nervous about doing this ever since I agreed to it, because my…

Vacations in Maine

Laurie's blog about her beach trip reminded me of the trip we take to Maine each year.  My friends (well, their parents) own a place in the middle of nowhere in Maine.  I've known the family since 4th grade, which was 1978, but a few other friends and I finally started going with them to Maine in 1996.  Counting this year, which we're missing, we've only missed 4 years since then.  I'm really missing it this year.  The property is a collection of a few small cabins on a pond.  There's the…

Lost rescue dog-sad story

http://franklinnow.com/news/125651543.html

We've been seeing these flyers posted EVERYWHERE no matter what part of town we are in and it gets my attention and I keep wondering what happened to this Yorkie? Well I was reading the community news online and I saw what happened which makes it even worse. I'm so happy that it is microchipped but still no good news. What a sad thing to happen.

About the Cat

Lachlan's "brother", Pixel, shocked me earlier this week with a behavior so out of character for my sweet lunatic that it made me question everything I thought I knew about this little honorary doodle!

Pixel acquired me last December, the Monday before Christmas, on the same day that my old Fern kitty of 16 years passed away. I knew that morning when I woke that…

Murphy is the first one in!!!

We started filling the pool this morning and altho it's going to be another 12 hours or more, I just couldn't wait any longer to let Murphy jump in. It's about 2-3 feet deep and he just jumped off the step like he's been doing it his whole life.

Bella on the other hand has not quite figured out what all this is just yet. She followed Murphy in without thinking and when she realized she was in water and it was up to her neck, she jumped back out like it was on fire. Then just decided…

But Lola....it's too hot for doodles!!!!

So we're in earth-shattering heat here in southern Ontario. We're past heat and humidex advisories, and into full-blown weather warnings! As I write this, with the humidity and all, it's about 47C (about 116F). So I've been avoiding taking Lola out, especially since she gets so dramatic with extreme weather conditions. She's been wandering around our (air-conditioned) house all afternoon staring at me and whining. I keep saying "Lola, trust me, it's too hot for doodles. You'll melt!"

So…

Daisy and her baby sister Bella

Well this is my first full day with Baby Bella, she arrived last evening at 5 and we have been having a blast. She is so sweet.

At first Daisy was a bit tentative and avoided her like the plaque, then she started walking closer to her and trying to get a good sniff. It is so fun to see.

Bella has NO idea what to do as far as playing with a big 65# dog at her current 15#'s but she is very interested in finding out. She plays with no other animals at this point cause she is just…

My First trip to the beach!

Hey friends! My mom took me to grandma and grandpas cabin this weekend, I was so excited I could barely sleep! I woke my mom up early Saturday morning, she mutter that it was only 7am or something and gave me the stink eye, but was still nice enough to get out of bed with me.  Dad stayed in bed, I am a little worried he might be going deaf because he never hears me when I want to wake up!  Anyways,  I forgot about dad pretty quickly because mom mentioned something about a beach and water. …

Water Boy

It's been an eventful couple of days!  Yesterday was worming day and I mis-read the dosage as it was different on the outside of the box to the inside and to cut a long story short I over dosed Riley by 3ml...  It wouldn't have been too bad except my partner decided that it was the day to go to buy a new lawnmower.  Not thinking, I put Riley in the back of the car where he settled quite happily... He is usually a great traveler, fast forward to half an hour later and he threw up all over the…

Update on Kahlua

Only other Doodle owners will understand.  I believe Kahlua has now figured out the gate and the bedroom door.  I am out of town a lot and DH is home with the dogs.  Remember her a week or so ago finding her way to our bedroom during the Fourth of July fireworks.  Well a storm came through Tuesday night, and DH wakes up to find Kahlua looking at him nose to nose.  Still can't believe it, but he had her jump in bed with him, WAIT, he had to help her get into the bed.  She was very agiated and… Continue

DON'T BLAME HOLLY!

I came into the breakfast nook this morning to find a great puddle on the floor.  This was far bigger than any Maltese could have left but, Holly has not had an accident since she was three months old and she is three and a half years old now...

My wife's Sherlock Holmes' decuction ability absolved Holly.  There were water droplets on the window which was open. Somehow the lawn sprinkler must have been hit by the gardner's lawnmower and was hitting the window and since the…

I am blessed

I joined DoodleKisses because we were getting a goldendoodle. I had hoped to get some much needed information from people that owned doodles. I was not disappointed. I have learned so much and hope to use this education when Lilly comes home.

What I did not expect to find was the love and support of total strangers. I posted about having to board Lilly for most of the month in September. An angel in the form of Dori (and Rue) stepped forward and offered to watch Lilly. I was so moved…

Summer Time..... and the Livin is... Dooooooddddelllllyyyyy

I love summer. There's nothing like the feeling of the warm sun on your skin to lift your soul. I guess living in frosty Ottawa gives me a lot of appreciation for warmer weather. I have to say though, enjoying summer with a doodle at my side has been exceptionally delightful. In the past, I have never fully appreciated the wonderful neighbourhood I live in, with all the parcs, tree-lined walking paths, nearby hiking trails, colourful cafes and friendly people. Sophie Bear has gotten me off…

Proud puppy parents! "Leave it" training.

The recent discussion in the food group about feeding scraps got me thinking about this past weekend.  Luna is never fed while we are eating, and she only gets food that is prepared for her.  She also doesn't get anything if she is begging.

A few months ago, we actively started trying to make sure "Leave it" is a really solid command with Luna.  Our neighborhood is full of kids and there are a lot of stray pieces of toys, candy wrappers and other doggie hazards out on…

Lilly and other ramblings

Lilly was born on June 2, 2011. I have been waiting for her arrival since January of this year. Well really I have been waiting for her since our lab mix Molly went to doggie heaven in 08. I just didn't wear my husband down until this year. We.are.not.getting.another.dog.no way.no how.over his dead body would there be another dog in the house while he was alive. When I called my daughter and…

~biting, nipping, growling & lunging

Hope is an adorable Golden Doodle (lil devil in a cute costume).  She is 3mos old (07.18.2011) and, out of control.  I have cried myself to sleep trying to figure out what to do with her.

I have read everything I…

We Survived the Beach!

I wrote recently about our annual trip to the beach to see my husband’s side of the family. My sister in law has a beach house and we all pile in and get up close and personal with family.  This year we had more people than usual and had to add some cots, along with more air mattresses, into the mix for sleeping at night. We have taken a vote and determined our family has outgrown one beach house and next year the younger generation will be renting an additional beach…

Happy Gotcha Day Boca!

A year ago today we drove 3 hours to pick up Boca who had traveled even further from Texas to join our family.  She was about 16 weeks then and is about 16 months now and has been a great little doodette.  Her history is documented in these blogs from last year.

This is my first sight of her last year in the arms of a fellow DK'er who'd picked her up from…
