WonderDog's Chemo - Day One

Penny and I went in for her first round of chemo today.

It's a testament to the stress-free environment of the oncology office that Penny wasn't at all stressed and took it like a champ.

The entire process took about an hour.  First, blood tests to establish a baseline for things like if the cancer has spread, and to measure bone marrow…

A First Time for Everything

When we picked our Molly girl up, we were so excited to get her home...we didn't even give the car ride home much thought.

We said goodbye to the breeder, loaded Molly into the back seat of the truck -on a towel- and started down the road.

She started to panic, so I climbed into the back seat with her. DH had just made it onto the interstate when I recognized the familiar look on Mollys face...the look every puppy dog gets when they are about to throw up.

DH was in the far left… Continue

Preparing for Remington's Consultation

We are heading to Purdue bright and early tomorrow morning for Remington's consultation with the soft tissue specialists at Purdue. As you probably already know, I'm a complete mess.  I have 2 full pages of questions to ask when I get there.  We have been busy getting his food together, picking out a toy for his stay, and figuring out directions to the clinic.  I'm soooo nervous and my stomach is FULL of butterflies.

Here's what will happen in the next couple of days...…

I'm a proud doodle mom!

My DH and I were involved in a charity walk yesterday and we decided to bring Clifford and Cloud with us even though the weather was chilly and rainy.  They were such good boys!  I can't even begin to count the number of people that came up and petted them - including children (some in wheelchairs or using rolling walkers) - and they were perfect with each and every one of them; not once did they pull away or jump up.  We spent over two hours at the event and they were calm and friendly the… Continue

Getting Started

Hopefully, this will be the first of many as I find my way around.  I do love Doodlekisses and all everyone has to offer. I just wish there were more hours in the day. I took these pictures on Mother's Day as we were having a Play Day for the dogs as well.… Continue

OCDM

After reading several blog posts and discussions about Doodle Moms with OCD...I think there should be a new acronym.  OCDM.  We have one Doodle Mom who MUST have all of the toys neatly kept in the toy box (I happen to agree with Murphy...you can't PLAY with toys when they are in the box).  We have another Doodle Mom who worries too much about, well, just about everything (I am just like that too, Jennifer).

Are you ready for what OCDM stands for? …

Please be kind to my doodles? Update: Doodles won them over!!!

We have my parents visiting us for 2 weeks and to say they are not dog people would be putting it mildly. However, I discussed with them that our dogs stay indoors, behave well and don't smell or bite or jump on anyone. They said "No problem" before they got here.

Well, it appears that it is a problem as all I hear is "Get away from me you mutt", Get out of here!" GO away Dog!" it just hurts me to hear them talk to them in a harsh manner and push them away when they just want to be…

You have to be kidding . . . nope.

DH is working from home today so I thought I would take the opportunity to run some errands and do some shopping, leaving Rooney in his dad's trusty care.  I get home and can clearly hear that DH is on a conference call with the Chinese and as I walk into entry way I see new poop bags strewn about the floor, Rooney has taken them out of the basket by the front door.  As he has now heard me come in the door, Rooney comes running all tail a wagging and with a poop bag in his mouth.  So now I'm… Continue

OUR MOM HAS OCD......PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hi, this is Murphy (Guinness's brother).  I'm writing this blog, because he's just to little to reach the computer....even when he's on the chair.  We have a BIG problem.  It's our Mom...she has something called OCD.  We didn't know what was wrong with her until today when I did some "net surfing".  Our Mom is really strange about a lot of things...but the thing with our toys is just out of control.  She has this "basket" where she puts our toys.  Now think about it, what good are toys when…

Mr. SmartyPants....AKA Bad Boy!

Simba is nearing 11 months and has certainly developed into quite the character.  The oohs and ahhhs and he's so cute have finally gone to his head!  Or have they?  Anyway, we were doing relatively well leaving for work until about a week ago (aside from some post-move hiccups)...

Incident 1: our dog walker arrived to find that Simba (we know Whopper doesn't do such things), had taken both the pen and notebook that our dog walker uses to leave us notes.  They were…

WonderDog Goes To The Oncologist

Someone up there is looking after us, because our appointment with the oncologist went about as well as it could, under the circumstances.

Everyone at the hospital was awesome to Penny (she is pretty charming, after all), and she had more hugs and kisses than she knew what to do with.  These folks are definitely animal lovers.

The oncologist shoots straight (which I like) but still remains positive and loving - a rare combination.  Penny just loved her from…

Even at 2 Years Old....

Peri can still decide to be destructive sometimes.  I think this picture (although it is dark), sums up her thoughts pretty well.  After a dinner night with friends last Saturday, we came home to DH's legal notes shredded up.  Lucky for us (and Peri) she did not get into some bigtime case files he had boxed up in his office area (which is shared with the dog's playroom).

Sooo, even though they say puppy stage lasts until age 2, that doesn't mean you will have a mellow,…

Happy Mother's Day?

My engineer DS suprised me on Mother's Day by coming home.  But he had to fly to Houston that afternoon.  So...would I keep Kona (the 6 month old, 60 lb Weimaraner) until he got back on Thursday night (for my graduation).

Did I mention he didn't bring a crate for Devil Dog?  Murphy has a soft sided crate that she immediately ripped through. She spent yesterday at daycare but didn't seem tired at all when she got home. She devours her meals in about 30 seconds.

She…

Welcome to Petsmart!

Since joining DK I have heard people talking about shopping at Petsmart and their grooming experiences and training classes, much of it on the negative side . Well Petsmart has arrived in Newfoundland and I eagerly looked forward to it's opening. It's finally open and today Quincy and I went for our first visit, first stop, shampoo. A person, who looked like she was probably the manager asked if she could help. I told her I was looking for an anti itch shampoo because Quincy had been doing a… Continue

Cakes and Tarts and Lots of Naked People!

We have had a lot of excitement on DK recently from Donna's post about Naked Doodles to Sharon's post about a Bare Husband and a Real Bear. This got me thinking about a naked story of my own.  We are nearing the end of the school year for some kids and their parents.  I love this time of year now that my girls are finished with school and our household is not in a mad frenzy to get last minute projects, papers, and finals completed. I had…

Roo Reports

There is group discussion that Mom is really into.  Caesar's Way or something.  What about Roo's Way.  I am excellent at training my people.  I go for long periods being absolutely wonderful, no counter surfing, no exploring various curious things in the home.  Soon Mom and Dad aren't as watchful.  Mom put out a bowl of lovely crunchy dried stuff on a low table.  I had not bothered it since it was put out.  But today - today it was just calling my name.  It is supposed to be looked at, its…

WonderDog's Biopsy Results

I had to take Biscuit in to the vet this morning to have her anal glands expressed (fun, fun, fun!) and while I was there, the biopsy results for Penny mast cell came in.  Dr. Izumi came right into the room to see me.  I knew it wasn't good news by the look on her face.

Penny has Grade 3 mast cell cancer - this is as bad as it gets.  We don't know if or how far it has spread, and are heading to an oncologist tomorrow morning.  I'm sure they'll do more tests to check for…

and the perfect child.............

I was divorced the same year my daughter graduated from high school.  Not planned, not anticipated.  I realized  that my 27 year marriage would never hold up after my girl left.  Every day, all day it was about my girl, to give everything to her, no matter what.  I was stuck with the fact that once she left my marriage was a farce.   It has been a difficult 6 years since.  But, yesterday I had the best conversation in so many years,.  We spoke for nearly 2 hours on the phone.  I have been all… Continue
