Well, unfortunately, it is not good news. I brought my little "squirt" to my vet today and we found a sizeable cleft palate. But she is still very active and healthy-looking despite a lack of weight gain, so we decided to look into some solutions rather than just euthanizing her. One of the vet techs there raises kittens and has saved several squirrels using tube feeding and was very anxious to take "Squirt" on for a few days to see if she could get her weight up. (For free! I have such nice…

Its true...my baby turns two today! I find I am doing the same thing on Phoebe's birthdays as I do on my children's which is to tell her about how she arrived here and all about her first day. She sits and listens to me drone on about how excited we were to get her, the rare ice storm that hit Arkansas that delayed her arrival and the look of wonder on my oldest's face as she strutted out of her crate.
Phoebe's first birthday marked the start of a truly terrible year for us--on her…

Sorry to keep you all in suspense but I have had no time to write! Lyric went through a long night of pacing and panting, but at 4:30 am, things got more serious. By 6:15, she was ready to give birth and hoped right into the whelping box--she made two grunts and out popped puppy #1 --a gorgeous all black male. 15 minutes later, we had a beautiful FAT apricot female followed by…

It is offical - we will be getting Rooney a brother or sister! I'm very excited. DH got back from China in the wee hours today and while on our walk with Rooney agreed that he is totally on board (which is wonderful as I already have put our name on our breeders wait list - shhhhh). We are crossing our fingers for a brother or sister in the April, May, June time frame. Rooney will be 1 in August so I think the timing would be perfect. This time around I am not going to set my heart on a…

Sort of like pulling out an album of grandkid photos... :)
A while back I noticed and blogged about Traveler playing 'find the fox,' and how impressed I was at not only his ability to find a hidden toy, but also his dedication in searching for it. We've continued to play this game off and on, with no particular consistency. The game is: he waits in one room while I hide the stuffed fox in a different room, then tell him to 'find the fox.' His search behavior is so…

Hi all...Murphy here
What a holiday, doods. I am so glad to be home. Very tired. We went to visit my human brother in Austin, a really cool place. He got a new puppy the day before we arrived (what was he thinking??!!) A Weimaramer. What a pain she is.
My brother is an engineer so he had a schedule all made out for her...on a spread sheet. She didn't follow it though...
Mom says they will both figure it out. I'm not sure.
We met fellow Doodlekisses…

I bought a new full length mirror today and Miss Nosey aka Bella, has sniffed, pawed, licked and nosed this for the past hour. She is fixated on the "puppy" that I just added to her pack and is trying so hard to get her to play with her,…

Lyric has started her long process towards becoming a mommy. She won't eat today and her temp has dropped a bit over 1 degree. She is resting comfortably and panting heavily--no signs of big contractions yet. We had her in her whelping box in a room that is warmed by a space heater to 75 degrees, but she hated the heat, so I let her go into a cool corner again for now. She can stay cool until the pups start coming, then it's into the box!
This is certainly a unique way to spend New…

Although this is not Thanksgiving I think it is a good time to be thankful. I am thankful for my doodle everyday, I am thankful that he is a good dog. I am thankful that he is healthy and happy. I am thankful that off leash he never wanders off, always stays in sight and if I am lagging behind he will stop and wait for me. He comes when he is called even when there is another dog involved. He is gentle with children and doesn't jump on people when greeting them. He doesn't bolt when the…

Okay I know my sweet angel really isn't one but I thought she listened a bit better. She scarred the dikens out of me this morning. I rarely let her off lead outside as the fence we are putting up is still invisible..... SO This morning I thought, I;m in a rush [remember that] and well I see know children, no people walking about or neighborhood dogs and cats that frequent my backyard. Come on Zo let's go out. All is…

Banjo and I took a long walk this morning on our heavily sanded road. Fortunately, because we live by the lake our road isn't salted too. On returning home I did my best to clean his paws and legs of the wet sand. UGH!!! What a mess!
I decided that his paws and legs needed a good trimming. So I brought out a nice frozen Kong and the vacuum cleaner.
I would stop and vacuum up the trimmings and sandy mess as I went. Luckily Banjo isn't bothered by the vacuum. Well,…
