Response to poodle snobs??

I am sure it has happened to others, but how do you respond to snide remarks from poodle people?

Murphy and I were in our annual Mardi Paws parade last Sunday. (There are very few doodles here, and none as large as Murphy.) As we walked, everyone wanted to know what kind of dog he was. A lady with two standard poodles in the crowd, upon hearing that he was a goldendoodle, remarked " I think it is disgusting that they would use a poodle to breed that. He is…

Vacuuming, what's a dood to do?

Very curious what your doodles do when you vacuum. Allie, now at 6 months old, has more freedom to roam around the house. Today I was vacuuming and I was surprised to find that she was not scared of the vacuum but would follow me around. She kept looking at me and it looked like she was saying "o.k. when are you going to be finished with that?' I thought "I'm with you on that one". She would kind of side step the vacuum but did not seem scared of it at all. I realize I have not noticed it… Continue

This is A Manly Doodle!

I went to PetSmart today on my run of errands to buy Guinness more "indestructible" toys and to look for a little coat for Izzy. No, we still haven't heard a word. I was thinking though when we get the call we may have to go quickly. Since she's been shaved all the way down, I didn't want her to be cold. I did find a really cute pink plaid cozy coat...so I'm ready. Anyway, I saw a guy with a gorgeous Golden Doodle. He was actually quite a "hotie" - both the guy and his Dood (not that I paid any… Continue

A true diamond in the rough!

I know everyone wants to know how it is going with Marley and here it is: WONDERFULLY!!!! Marley is the sweetest-natured dog who fits in so well here, it's like he's been here forever. He's been busy these last few days!

Thursday was Marley's first vet visit since getting neutered at 7 weeks. Surprisingly, he's in pretty good health. Heartworm test negative! He's about 5-10 pounds underweight and has really yeasty ears, but no fleas or mites. Pretty sure the yeasty ears was from having… Continue

What will he look like???

This is 9 week old Banjo! He's a mini-golden doodle. We haven't met in person yet...but I've fallen head over heels in love with him and am anxiously awaiting his arrival from WV this coming Tuesday. I feel like a kid at Christmas!!! I've combed the internet in search of puppy to adult pictures trying to get an idea of what Banjo will look like in a year or so. Any ideas…

Zukes Treats

I found what I think is a great sale on Zuke's treats. The mini natural treats, for instance, are $5.99 for a one pound bag and the other treats are on sale as well. Also, there's a discount code for 13% on your order.

Dog Breeds... How Can I Love So Many?

I have to say that I really love having this blog. I may not use it much, but it's good to know I have a place I can ramble and maybe even get useful feedback on all of my crazy thoughts. This post is going to be long. I just have so much to consider!

I am a MAJOR dog person. Since I was two or three I have been obsessed. My first birthday present I can remember was "The Encyclopedia of the Dog" by Bruce Fogle. I have read that book SO many times it isn't even funny. Ironically, my… Continue

Lizzie has a brother!

Unfortunately this is not the happy bring-home-a-new and healthy puppy story it should be! Before I begin, I HATE HATE HATE that people bring dogs home who have NO idea what goes into taking care of a dog, either financially or time-wise!

I was sent a link to a craigslist advertisement for a black labradoodle from my aunt (I know Karen, you HATE craigslist). I shot a quick e-mail to the couple to find out about the dog and they called me back within a couple of hours. His name is… Continue

Beemer Update - Week 1

First we would like to thank everyone for their well wishes and prayers for Beemers recovery. It has been a blessing to get up every morning (vote for the DRC) and then read all the get well greetings. I have read them to Beemer and I know he is loving every one of them....thank you all.

Well it has been 1 week since the surgery and all is going very well. Beemer's gate has improved and he continues to put more weight on his surgery hip (left). He now has pain pills only when he needs… Continue

Lessons Learned

This is one of my favorite photos of Dakota. And now ONLY because we are here to learn and improve photography, I must share the comments of the photographer that critiqued this photo because it was a lesson learned for me that I would like you to learn from me rather than through your own experiences. I got a thumbs up in composition. I was told that this was a good photo and if only I had of focused my camera on the dog, it could have been…

Did your pups do all this?

It's 10 AM. Sheila made it to 7AM this morning. Yeah. So far I've bundled up 3 times for potty, zoomies.

Sheila has fallen in love w/ the birds, watching them eat, barking at them (hmmm). Played in the new snow (I have a longggggggg training leash so she can zoom and boy, whoever came up w/ that term was a genius (love the romp word, too). She jumped face first into DH winter boots, I would have taken pic but I was afraid she'd suffocate. Then she played in snow, is now braver, going…

Winter Walking Wipe-outs

With the recent dump of snow in our area, I experienced my second major wipe-out while walking Gavin. The first time I fell on top of him. I bragged that he alertly assisted by breaking my fall. DH pointing out that poor Gavin had no choice - I had him pinned! But if he had not been in perfect heeling position...

Yesterday, I wasn't so lucky. I fell off to the right on yet another icy sidewalk that had been neglected by a home owner. I went down hard, but aside from a goose…

Nice To Meet You - I Am Chopped Liver

One of our neighbors down the road has been having some major landscape work done on their front and back yards. The landscapers have been there for several weeks, doing everything from all new plants and trees to a brick driveway.

Penny and walk by there every morning on our walk - the men always smile and say hello.

The work is now finished and the guys were cleaning up this morning. As Penny and I came around the curve, I overheard one guy say to his foreman, "Hey... here… Continue

Photography Lesson: Composition

Besides being technically correct, being well composed spells the difference between an ordinary photo and one with an impact. It is very important to know and understand the common principles of a good composition. We used the word "principles" rather than "rules" because the latter strongly suggests that a…

Sheila Loves Illinois

I am tired, achy, exhausted, happy!! Sheila is a tiny tot, weighing in at 41/2 lbs. at 4 mos. But she is a bundle of energy and reminds me of a hummingbird. She just whirs with excitement, her tail and her whole body wagging, hopping, chewing, p and p-ing. I keep trying to catch shots of her but she is too fast for my camera!!

Luckily Sheila loves snow. She is a true Maine girl, born and bred. That's good, since thats where we spend…

Will She Be A "Girly Girl"??????

So, Monday is over, and I still haven't heard a word from the Shelter about MY Izzy. I've been obsessing all day....carrying the Blackberry around the house so I would know the minute the email came in. Her bed is sitting here empty, and the hot pink collar has no beautiful little girl attached. Her empty dish is sitting in the closet...no home cooked food. Of course, my imagination is taking over, and I'm envisioning Guinness and Izzy running and playing… Continue
