I was so scared to take Riley to get him groomed, but I had to. The poor baby had no eyes. At least none that I had seen in weeks. So I got up my nerve to call some groomers today, and I was lucky enough to find one that said that she did LOTS of doodles and would not make him look like a poodle. So off he went.
I dropped him off and went to the grocery store and then came back to get him. He looked so grown up....AHHH, they get big so fast :( Anyways I couldn't be happier with what…

Today it's really Friday the 13th for me. I came back from work and went with Benny to my friend who owns the Bordeauxdog Zoey who is Benny's biggest buddy. We went together on a walk around the lake and both dogs were off leash. In the distance we saw already 2 people standing around with a great dane and an american bullterrier both off leash as well. We slowly approached and the great dane came over to greet our dogs. The american bullterrier was laying next to the owner (at least I assume…

Sí, se puede Jesse!!!!!
1:00 today Jess will get his "clean-out" -- this has been routine, a trip to OR every other day along with the nine million other trips for various reasons. The nurse just told me they may take out the rotary pump -- I ask "to replace with WHAT???" She said the doctor wants to check to see if his own heart is coming back enough --- two days ago he was very grim and said no way --- the fact that they are looking to do this again must mean they are able to see some…

California was fun last weekend :) Nancy and her family came out on Sunday to watch all the dogs and stayed long enough to see Buddy and I compete. Wish you would have been there Saturday, we did so much better :o
Nancy sent me the pictures that are attached!
Saturday was so great, we ended up with a 96 score and first place with a big blue rosette to add to our collection of mounting ribbons. There was a lady with a beautiful gray standard poodle that came in second and she…

Today was awful. I can barely bring myself to type this. Jess could not be closed today and his heart is not showing enough improvement to give life. The doctor painted a very grim picture with his chance for infection and the high risk he is at. He repeated that it is "up to you." -- What a frightening statement. He also suggested that he may not "be there" but the nurse and I disagree, as he has responded when the sedation is slightly lifted. The second doctor concurred. He could be a…

From time to time people tell me, “Lighten up, it’s just a dog”, or “That’s a lot of money for just a dog”.
They don’t understand the distance traveled, time spent, or costs involved or “Just a dog”.
Some of my proudest moments have come about with “Just a dog”. Many hours have passed with my only company being “Just a dog” and not once have I felt slighted. Some of my saddest moments were brought about by “Just a dog”. In those days of darkness, the gentle touch of “Just…

Ozzy is having both dew claws removed tomorrow and I can't help but worry about him....first the cone that they will put on his head will knock everything over at home...I keep thinking Zoey will try and help him get to the bandages. He is a big goofy happy dog and I just feel bad..I am sure he will recover faster than I will over this. Plus he is getting his first hair cut today and may look silly on top of all of it too. Why do we worry about our pets like they are children. I forgot they are…

On Saturday night my husband and I went out for a nice dinner and decided to watch a movie once home. We decided to give Whopper her first bully stick ever. It took her a second to decide if she liked it and then for the next several hours she didn't move or make a sound. We got through the entire movie without her wanting any attention. She carried it into our bedroom that night, slept with it, and in the morning let us sleep in because she still had work to do. On Sunday night, my husband…

We are on day sixteen -- how did I get here?
Jess looked great today, albeit, sedated and attached to lots of medical equipment. Temp is going down and he lost and additional three liters of fluid -- medically induced, but his kidney function continues to be strong. Coloring is getting better and you can see he is less swollen. He knows when I am there. I came with a friend he had not seen in a long time and when I mentioned her name his eyebrows went up!!! So cute! I just called and had…

I saw a link to this article on a training forum and found it to be very interesting and wanted to share with everybody here:
smartdogs.wordpress.com/2009/03/09/great-expectations/
For me, this gives a little insight into why training methods that use
both reward and punishment seem to be very effective (in my opinion). Dogs learn when they get things wrong, but if nothing much (that…

Today Fergie and I had our second basic obedience class. I've done good with her at home on my own but we want to take the Canine Good Citizen test in mid-May so I wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing and that she could behave in a room full of strange dogs. She's doing wonderfully. The instructor said she'll breeze right through that test. I like this obedience thing - I may go on with a lot more of it. What I need to know and I'll ask next week but when they have the obedience…

Wow -- I actually gave myself permission to NOT go to Mayo today. After last nights ordeal Jess was going to be left under heavier sedation today to allow the fluids to leave his body and the heart heal. Tomorrow will be much of the same.
I began the day walking Phoebe and her older brother Hobbes. We walked to visit Phoebe's little Schnauzer-poo pal who is 1/3rd her size. I wish we had close Doodle pals for her. Gosh is she
so social!
I was able to get lots of accounts squared…

So many of you have kindly asked about Jackdoodle and how his treatment is going, I thought I would give you all an update. The support of our friends here on Doodle Kisses has made all of this so much easier for us!
It has been 7 weeks now since Jack started his immunotherapy shots. We will not know how much they are helping him for months, maybe even more than a year. I am hopeful that by the time his really intolerable season starts (August through October), the antigens will have…

I consider myself a well informed woman on health issues. This is something I NEVER heard of.
I received an email from a friend and actually watched it since it said "URGENT" - I usually just deleted this kind of emails. I was so shocked at what I read that I did some research and made my employees use tis info as a mandatory inservice today. I have enclosed this info below. Please pass this on to every person you know - if they tell 10 people and they tell 10 people,…

The past two weeks have been crazy for me with midterms and papers piling up. So, unfortunately not as much time as usual to play with Herbie. I feel bad, but it doesn't seem to bother him a bit, as he has now learned how to play fetch all by himself. The last couple days he has been standing on the couch, and then drops his tennis ball from the top of the couch, and then runs to get it! It's absolutely adorable and hilarious to watch. I knew doodles were smart, but wow! Resourceful too...
