Well we're back from Puppy Obedience. It was actually pretty funny. Murphy slept at my feet through most of it. In his class there are two boxers (litter mates), a Golden, a Shitzu, a German Shepherd, and some sort of Lab mix. These puppies were wild and crazy (barking, jumping, nipping and peeing - just the way puppies should act). Murphy was having nothing to do with all of this. At one point the instructor called him into the group, he went and played for a couple of minutes, and then back…

Well tomorrow it will be one week since we brought our Murphy home. I'm not sure how to even describe this week. The first several days our Murph was "Mr. Perfect". I know Guinness thought he was a real "goody goody". Guinness loved to lead him astray, and then when the puppy did do something wrong, Guinness would bark to tell me. He showed him where all the wastebaskets were, and when Murph took something out Guinness would bark like crazy (and he doesn't bark). Tonight while I was on DK, they…

Today is Guinness's actual birthday, but we had the little party last night so our local grand kids could come. My little Emma is 6 and already a Doodle lover. She adores Guinness, and he's always been so sweet with her. I was really wondering how it would go with Murphy. He's a young puppy who is totally full of life, so I had visions of him jumping and nipping. Never happened. The video is actually a little longer than it should be because I was so blown away with how Murphy behaved with the…

Well it's day two. Today it was Guinness who got up at 6:00...he wanted us to let his brother out of the crate so they could play. DH took them out to go potty and then they "joined me" in bed. Have you ever been licked to death by two Doodles at the same time while you're trying to sleep? Doodle tongues all over my face....very wet Doodle tongues. I figured that was my "cue" to get up.
I used to wonder and worry a little about whether I could love a new dog as much as I loved…

Murphy and Guinness are sound asleep at my feet. They are exhausted. They played like crazy starting a little after 6:00 this morning, and then we took them for a nice long walk in the park. They were "begging for mercy" by the time we got home. Murph ate his lunch and then it was "nap time". I am amazed by Murphy. He did fantastic on his leash this morning....no pulling at all. I think it really helps when there is another dog to watch and "copy". It…

Oh, what an amazing, incredible day. We're home. The trip was perfect. Guinness didn't throw up or drool. We didn't get lost....thank heaven for GPS. In years past, DH and I wouldn't be speaking by the time we got there...you know that "asking for directions thing". Lynne's home is Doodle Disneyland! Guinness loved it...I think he wanted to stay. All these awesome Doods...all sizes! It is just such a fun and amazing feeling there. On the trip home my two boys snuggled together and slept..the…

I'm totally in shock right now.....but sooo happy. Guinness will be getting a new "baby brother" tomorrow. We're heading to Lynne's tomorrow morning to adopt our new "Irish bundle". He's 10 weeks old and absolutely adorable. Karen calls this "Irish magic", and she's so right. As you know, this has been an absolutely crazy week for us. First losing Izzy (and knowing she's probably back with the family that neglected her so badly), then the news about Guinness's lab results (although I firmly…

Let me try this again....I did something last time when I added the link and I lost my blog. I went out to Petfinder this morning like I do every day to see Izzy....her posting was gone. I sent one last follow-up to the shelter asking them what the status was, just so I could have some closure. They have never responded to any of my inquiries, so they probably won't respond this time either. Anyway, I'm so sad. I fell in love with that little girl, but I'm thinking it just wasn't meant to be. I…

A good friend of mine who is also an animal lover and is fighting her own battle with cancer sent me this this morning. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.Anyone who has pets will really like this. You'll like it even if you don't and you may even decide you need one!
Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.' Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they…

I went to PetSmart today on my run of errands to buy Guinness more "indestructible" toys and to look for a little coat for Izzy. No, we still haven't heard a word. I was thinking though when we get the call we may have to go quickly. Since she's been shaved all the way down, I didn't want her to be cold. I did find a really cute pink plaid cozy coat...so I'm ready. Anyway, I saw a guy with a gorgeous Golden Doodle. He was actually quite a "hotie" - both the guy and his Dood (not that I paid any…

So, Monday is over, and I still haven't heard a word from the Shelter about
MY Izzy. I've been obsessing all day....carrying the Blackberry around the house so I would know the minute the email came in. Her bed is sitting here empty, and the hot pink collar has no beautiful little girl attached. Her empty dish is sitting in the closet...no home cooked food. Of course, my imagination is taking over, and I'm envisioning Guinness and Izzy running and playing…

I am so jealous of all you DK'rs with Doodles who will let you dress them up. So, this week I decided that at least Guinness could wear a Valentine bandana. I couldn't find one anywhere. So, even though I'm the least crafty person ever, off I went to the fabric store to buy Valentine and St. Patrick's Day material. I also bought "pinking scissors" so I could do this without ever breaking out the needle and thread (I was just going to "fray the edges like I used to do to my jean shorts, but the…

I came across this and really loved it. It's by Carol Lea Benjamin who wrote "Mother Knows Best - The Natural Way To Train Your Dog".
There is something in your dog that you cannot own - maybe it's the call of the wild. There is a dogness there you can only begin to admire, but, try as you will, you cannot possess or even fully understand it. Trained or not, he'll always be his own dog to a degree. He is yours to enjoy and care for. You can neither change his true…

So now I'm thinking I have really finally crossed the line. I know I've been suffering with OCDD for a while, but it has reached a new level. Guinness is never really comfortable riding in the car. He used to drool and throw up even on really short trips. Lately he's "okay" under 20 - 30 minutes - no actual vomiting, but clearly nervous. So, we got him a prescription for the long trips...but what to do about making him more comfortable on the shorter rides. I saw an ad for a CD of dog "therapy…

Guinness has a new trick and it's totally embarrassing me. When we're out and people come over to greet him, I put him in a sit/stay before there is any petting. If he gets up and pulls or lunges I take him right away, and he never gets to greet the person. Well Saturday we took him to an Open House at a large area pet store, so there were lots of new people to meet. Each time I put him in his sit/stay he would totally do it, but he cried like a little baby the whole time. People would…

I should probably be posting this on the Medical group page, but I really didn't find much there in my search. I just talked to the vet, and she is diagnosing Guinness with IBS. All of his tests came back negative which leaves IBS as the most probable diagnosis. She said his diet will be critical. She is recommending home cooking for him going forward. She also warned that he should not ingest any "foreign" substances (leaves, twigs, even threads from toys), as this would most likely trigger an…

I am so frustrated. We went through a terrible time with Giardia about 6 weeks ago, and I'm thinking it's starting all over again. He had loose stools yesterday so I brought in a stool sample to the vet. During the middle of the night he started with really bad diarrhea which has continued all morning. He's now also throwing up the yellow bile. I have a vet appointment this afternoon, but I'm pretty sure the giardia is back. I have been so careful with him. He hasn't been to the dog pen and we…

Well, he passed. I really want to thank all my Doodle Kisses friends who have given me such great advice over the past couple of months through the training. I listened well. Took him to the store this morning and we walked around for an hour, greeting all kinds of people. Then I took him to the Agility Class that was being held at the place where he was tested and made him lay quietly watching the other dogs in class. I think he was pretty well tired out, so there was no nonsense during the…

Thought it might be fun to collect our Doodle New Years resolutions....
Guinness is resolving to stop destroying and eating all the new toys that him Mommy gets him and to pass his Canine Good Citizen test tomorrow.
