Atlanta will miss you Bixby!

Bixby Foster Doodle is leaving today on the first leg of his journey to his forever home. He will be transported to New England, where Liz Syring from the DRC will be fostering him for about 10 days until his wonderful new forever family comes back from vacation. The reason for this is two-fold...first - Bixby is so super attached to me and to Callie that we worried about the bond continuing to strengthen over time. Then, I loved having him around so much that I worried less about that (yes,…

Our Visit With "The Trainer"

Well, I don't know who had more anxiety tonight me or Tori.... I think I actually surpassed Tori. As we waited for 'the trainer' to come - I paced, stared out the window, and barked (orders at my family). It has truly happened - I have become part "DOG" ~ I realized that everything I was doing while waiting 'the trainer's' arrival was everything I was trying to break Tori of! As instructed, I had Tori quarantined from our part of the house. First off, she was about 10…

My Summer Afternoon Outing

I have been doing so well with my loose leash walking that mom said it was time to “up the ante.” You see I think it is my personal, civic responsibility to meet and greet every man, woman, child and dog that I pass. I have done a lot of work on this, but still have a hard time resisting children and dogs. Mom says this is bad manners, but I don’t understand how being friendly is…

I'm a proud doodle mom!

A few weeks ago, I had Callie's portrait professionally taken (a local pet photographer had a fundraiser and reduced her cost greatly and had you bring in a large bag of dog food for the Atlanta Humane Society). Today Callie is the pet of the day on her blog! I am posting this so you can see how cute the photos came out!! Callie was a very good girl (once we got the treat thing worked out - the photographer's dog handler was using peanut butter treats. I'm allergic peanuts, so Callie just…

MS. FOXY GRACIE DOODLE UPDATE

Well, Ms. Foxy Lady seems (seemed) to be progressing nicely up until about an hour ago. I'll have to wait and see tomorrow. After the second surgery which was last Friday, she no longer was favoring the paw and on Saturday while we were working in the yard she was her old self. Wanting us to throw her tennis ball and she would run and get it. Over and over...all day long! Forget the 7-10 days of no jumping or running. It was not going to happen with this Doodle. We have been soaking her paw… Continue

Peri's Collar Unsnapped....

Yesterday afternoon I was taking the dogs on their daily afternoon walk. It was HOT, I was tired and we were walking along the start of our greenway, which is adjacent to a very busy road. Two lanes, but still very busy. Peri's collar just came unsnapped - I had the leash and collar in my hand. 5 seconds felt like 5 minutes. My heart was about to leap out of my chest.

I couldn't think of what to do so I just said "Peri WAIT". (why not SIT??) She just stood there…

Miss Coco is recovering from her banged knee.

Whew! We got the good word from the vet today... No knee surgery for Coco.

Two weeks ago on a Saturday it was pouring down rain and poor Coco had to go "do her business". When she came running back inside she slipped on a wet porch step and bumped her left knee on the step (of course this was the foot I had yet to trim). She came in the house limping. The next Monday she was still limping so off to the vet we went. X-Rays revealed she has a pulled ligament and needs to stay…

Duncan's gonna have a new doodle friend!!!

my good friend just rescued this fluff-a-muffin. She know's he's part poodle but they aren't sure mixed with what. His name is Bailey and he's already a year old so my guess is that the mixed with part is a small type breed. Duncan is going to meet him on Thursday for their first play date. We're on our way now to the pet store to pick out some toys. YAY!!!…

Here's Your Laugh Of The Day! (Maybe The Whole Week!)

My daughter had Jackdoodle in the car this morning when she decided to go through the McDonald's drive-through and get some coffee. Jack was in the seat behind her with his head out the window when she got to the cashier.

The young lady looked at Jack and said "Hi, Puppy!"

Then she looked at my daughter and said "He is a dog, right?"

I have not stopped laughing about this! Many people have asked what kind of dog Jack is, but…

Is $248.00 Worth Peace of Mind?

You bet it is to me! Well let me preface this by saying last night my husband and I went out to dinner to celebrate our 27th anniversary. We left two "responsible" boys, ages 17 and almost 13 home with our very over protective, 'no more puppy'... "Tori-girl" (my in-laws have an apartment attached to our home - and they were home too -just in case). After a very nice dinner, we came home and the boys proceeded to tell us that Tori got in the garbage - (which my son was told… Continue

Shelby Doodle.... exploring a new career choice!

Hi Doods,

My mom likes to joke that I could be an exterminator because... well, I LOVE to eat bugs! Although, there is one bug that I don't like much... it has a pincher on it, so I leave those alone.

The past couple of weeks.... I've learned that I have skills in a new area, one that may be unusual for doodles, but I am not so sure. It's interior decorating. Specifically, I like to work in the Master bathroom (which is where I like to sleep each night). My mom…

Gracie Doodle Goes BACK For More Surgery!!

Well, Gracie Doodle went back for more surgery today. The first surgery was on Wednesday and here it is Friday and she had to go back. Her paw continued to look really bad and the swelling wasn't going down. I took her in and they said they would have to put her out and do more surgery. My poor baby!!! This time it was "our" vet who performed the surgery. We had a different one from the group on Wednesday. I'm sure they are all the same but this one knows us personally and I some how feel l he… Continue

Moral: Don't be a Good Samaritan (or Better Train Your Dog to Come)

Ugh. So much for being a good samaritan. I tried to take a neighbor's dog home because the dog raced at my car and I was afraid of hitting said dog. Well, after a bit of maneuvering I got Angel, Toby, and Zero (my neighbor's dog) into the back of my Civic, took the dog home, and as I was getting Zero out from my car on Toby's leash, Angel jumps out and takes off with Zero before I could get him on leash.

They ran. They ran through grass. They ran through leaves. They ran through… Continue

Bixby Foster Doodle Goes to Work!

Last night, I got home to discover that my air conditioner had broken at some point yesterday afternoon (I had been home at lunch time to walk the dogs and it was working then). By 10pm the inside of my house was 82 degrees. My bedroom was managable to sleep in, but I really didn't think that it would be ok for the dogs to be in the house during the day (reg temp today is going to be 95, and the oppressive humidity will boost that to about 105). Callie was easy to take care of - I knew that…

One Sensitive Dood!

The past two weeks seemed to be one of those periods where different ailments (none major) seemed to hit one right after another. About a week and 1/2 ago I was definitey achy and know that I was having a hard time staying comfortable throughout the night. Due to migraine medicines my blood pressure sometimes gets a little low too and that had been an issue earlier in the day. At about 3 AM, Whopper jumped up on the bed, got right in my face, jumped off the bed and started barking. My…

Gracie Doodle's Update

I want to thank all of my DK friends for their well wishes for Gracie's speedy recovery. I brought a very groggy 71.2 lb. Doodle home and boy it sure was a chore trying to get her in and out of the car and then up on our bed. I put her there at 4:15 and she didn't move all night. I would check on her every 15 minutes and would roll her over from time to time just so she would be comfortable in another position. This morning at 7:30 she sat up and with the help of my husband went outside. First… Continue

Webber and Seda came for a visit.

I am sneaking onto mommy’s computer while she is baking cookies. I keep asking her to tell everyone about the great time I had when Webber and Seda came to play earlier this week. She keeps saying “I will, just let me finish baking cookies” or “give me a few more minutes to finish this web page”. Whatever! I am not waiting on her anymore.

Baxter, Sherlock, Coco and I were stretched out on the living floor just like every other…

Eventful Day...

Every evening I give the Maltese and Holly a light snack, Tonight two of the rescue females who have been totally afraid to come near me, came up and took several snacks out of my hand. They have been watching the excitement of Holly and our other Maltese when it is snack time and just decided they wanted part of the fun. Each great journey starts with a single small step.

Another one of the fearful trio of rescue Maltese has been accepting treats from me for several weeks…
