Bixby Foster Doodle is leaving today on the first leg of his journey to his forever home. He will be transported to New England, where Liz Syring from the DRC will be fostering him for about 10 days until his wonderful new forever family comes back from vacation. The reason for this is two-fold...first - Bixby is so super attached to me and to Callie that we worried about the bond continuing to strengthen over time. Then, I loved having him around so much that I worried less about that (yes,…

I have been doing so well with my loose leash walking that mom said it was time to “up the ante.” You see I think it is my personal, civic responsibility to meet and greet every man, woman, child and dog that I pass. I have done a lot of work on this, but still have a hard time resisting children and dogs. Mom says this is bad manners, but I don’t understand how being friendly is…

A few weeks ago, I had Callie's portrait professionally taken (a local pet photographer had a fundraiser and reduced her cost greatly and had you bring in a large bag of dog food for the Atlanta Humane Society). Today Callie is the pet of the day on her blog! I am posting this so you can see how cute the photos came out!! Callie was a very good girl (once we got the treat thing worked out - the photographer's dog handler was using peanut butter treats. I'm allergic peanuts, so Callie just…

Yesterday afternoon I was taking the dogs on their daily afternoon walk. It was HOT, I was tired and we were walking along the start of our greenway, which is adjacent to a very busy road. Two lanes, but still very busy. Peri's collar just came unsnapped - I had the leash and collar in my hand. 5 seconds felt like 5 minutes. My heart was about to leap out of my chest.
I couldn't think of what to do so I just said "Peri WAIT". (why not SIT??) She just stood there…

Whew! We got the good word from the vet today... No knee surgery for Coco.
Two weeks ago on a Saturday it was pouring down rain and poor Coco had to go "do her business". When she came running back inside she slipped on a wet porch step and bumped her left knee on the step (of course this was the foot I had yet to trim). She came in the house limping. The next Monday she was still limping so off to the vet we went. X-Rays revealed she has a pulled ligament and needs to stay…

My daughter had Jackdoodle in the car this morning when she decided to go through the McDonald's drive-through and get some coffee. Jack was in the seat behind her with his head out the window when she got to the cashier.
The young lady looked at Jack and said "Hi, Puppy!"
Then she looked at my daughter and said "He is a dog, right?"
I have not stopped laughing about this! Many people have asked what kind of dog Jack is, but…

Hi Doods,
My mom likes to joke that I could be an exterminator because... well, I LOVE to eat bugs! Although, there is one bug that I don't like much... it has a pincher on it, so I leave those alone.
The past couple of weeks.... I've learned that I have skills in a new area, one that may be unusual for doodles, but I am not so sure. It's interior decorating. Specifically, I like to work in the Master bathroom (which is where I like to sleep each night). My mom…

Last night, I got home to discover that my air conditioner had broken at some point yesterday afternoon (I had been home at lunch time to walk the dogs and it was working then). By 10pm the inside of my house was 82 degrees. My bedroom was managable to sleep in, but I really didn't think that it would be ok for the dogs to be in the house during the day (reg temp today is going to be 95, and the oppressive humidity will boost that to about 105). Callie was easy to take care of - I knew that…

The past two weeks seemed to be one of those periods where different ailments (none major) seemed to hit one right after another. About a week and 1/2 ago I was definitey achy and know that I was having a hard time staying comfortable throughout the night. Due to migraine medicines my blood pressure sometimes gets a little low too and that had been an issue earlier in the day. At about 3 AM, Whopper jumped up on the bed, got right in my face, jumped off the bed and started barking. My…

Every evening I give the Maltese and Holly a light snack, Tonight two of the rescue females who have been totally afraid to come near me, came up and took several snacks out of my hand. They have been watching the excitement of Holly and our other Maltese when it is snack time and just decided they wanted part of the fun. Each great journey starts with a single small step.
Another one of the fearful trio of rescue Maltese has been accepting treats from me for several weeks…
