Oliver...my sweet boy!

Ollie has come a long way from his biting and growling. He is now 14 weeks old. He almost never growls or bites anymore. He listens to instructions well and is doing really well with training.(though I know there are likely to be rebellious periods during his teen years.) He is also potty trained now and has had no accidents in the last 2/3 weeks. He tells us he needs to go by scratching at the door and a soft woof. All in all a real joy to have around and a happy and secure little guy.

Just little things that make you laugh!

My leaf rake, just a cheap plastic headed one had fallen to the ground. With the help of my neighbors tons of leaves had covered it up entirely. Riley, was out for a peaceful cruising of the yard. Somehow he stepped on one end of it, and the other end came flying up. I have never seen a little dog jump so high from a standing position. I swear he went three feet in the air! Ran about ten feet, and turned to look to see what the heck had just happend. I still laugh thinking about it.

Sick little girl

Talk about tug at your heat strings. I just took Rooney, on a cold and windy Florida day to our dog park. We were early and there were no other dogs there - just a grandmother and her two small grandchildren. A little girl about 7 was just laying on a park bench coughing. I said to the Grama "oh dear, someone has a bad cold." She said "no - she has cystic fibrosis." By this time the little girl's younger brother had started to play with Rooney and they were running and chasing each other but… Continue

Are You Looking For Gift Ideas for Your Doodle?

I came across this on FaceBook today. When I saw that it was constructed of cardboard my initial thought was "Oh sure....this will last about 1 MINUTE!!!" But, on viewing the video it actually looks like something Banjo would really love! It's called "The Amazing Treat Machine". Check it out here -

Snow

Well, we had lots of the white stuff and you were all right, zoomies are great fun!!! My mum thought I was really funny chasing round and round and rolling about, she said I looked like a snow dog and it was a good job I'm black otherwise she wouldn't have been able to see me!! The white stuff was really deep and it tickled my tummy when I was running about. When we went to the park, there was lots of us playing about and jumping like "spring lambs". Great, great fun. Mum had to pick all…

New Meaning for Dingleberry!!!!

I came across this today while I was searching for something totally unrelated. I thought it might give you a chuckle.image SAN DIEGO, California- John Dingle and Brad Berry are ready to give back to the community. The animal lovers and pro football players announced they will join forces to build the Dingle Berry Dog and Cat Home for abandoned pets. "We see a lot of pets go to shelters and if nobody takes them in six weeks, that's where we step in. We give them a home for another six…

Happy Feelings

Angelina, one of the female Maltese we fostered from the horrible puppy mill in Oregon had been adopted several months ago. She and her buddy, another rescue Maltese (not our rescue) named Rocco, came to stay with us for a week while their mom was out of town on business...

Both Angelina and, especially Rocco, thoroughly enjoyed playing with Holly and she enjoyed them. Rocco is a very energetic and playful dog while Angelina is more sedate. Rocco would roam our yard following…

Eukanuba National Invitational Dog Show

Judy visited the Eukanuba National Invitational Dog Show at Long Beach, California yesterday because Sarah, a Maltese we had bred and whom we still co-own with her trainer/handler had been invited to the agility trials. I stayed home to take care of our dogs - we have a new rescue puppy about three days old and we don't leave puppies and their moms alone for any length of time. AND OF COURSE, many of the college championship football games were being played, EVERY DARK CLOUD HAS A SILVER… Continue

Do You Call Your Doodle?

When I ask do you call your doodle, I mean on the telephone. Sometimes when I am at work and I call to check in at home my DH will put the phone to Quincy's ear so I can talk to him, as soon as he hears my voice he runs around the house looking for me. Are we just a little crazy?

I think I saw men in white coats with a big net lurking outside my house. They're coming to take me away, HA… Continue

Must be locked up at night

Riley is accustomed to being locked up in his wire crate at night. Occassionally, I will just put him in his room and shut the door. It isn't too long before he is barking and putting up a fuss. He has to be put in his crate with door shut, before all is right with his world. Go figure!

Bella's first Dog Park Visit

Bella's shots are finished and her incision from her spaying is healed, so we all went to the dog park today for the first time. DH, Murphy, Bella and I walked over, about 1/2 mile or so, and as we got closer she started to notice all the dogs and got so excited. She decided to show everyone how big she was by barking at a huge mastif. He wasn't the least bit phased by her little white fluffy self.

We took her in on her leash, let her get a feel for all the new sights and smells and…

I LOVE Murphy Day

Murphy here,

Today is Murphy Day. Some of you call it Saturday. I get Mom up early and get the paper. She takes forever to get dressed. But finally she is ready. She buckles me and we head to the Trailhead Community Market to see all my friends. I get lots of pats and hugs.

Come and Get It

Just got an email from Doggiefood.com. They are having a 15% off sale, not unusual, but if you spend $100+ they have free shipping. Together that's a good deal. If I stock up any more food for the winter, people won't be able to eat in my dining room. But some of you may want to take advantage of this.

New Game

Kona, age 3, and Owen, 14 weeks, are getting along great. Kona has developed a new game. He goes out the doggie door in the kitchen and comes to the French door in the family room waiting for Owen to notice him. When Owen sees Kona he goes to the door wildly begging to get out. I go to the door, let him out and he attacks Kona with glee. After a minute, Kona goes in the doggie door in the kitchen, walks through the house to the French door in the family room and waits for Owen to see him. Owen… Continue

Dreams do come true!

Every morning when the world gets up we have our routine. Wake up, bathroom, take the dogs out, rush the children, shuffle the husband, sling a cup of joe that's now cold. I always find that moment to play with the girls. Then I'm off again to be caught up in the routine of life. BUT at the same time every day, seems when I'm at my craziest moment, Zoe comes front in a perfect sit and stares at me with such a pleaful stare.

It makes me melancholy. It's a mom, I know you're getting…

Bodi's first day of doggie daycare!

I posted a discussion last week asking for advice about doggie daycare . . . thanks to all of you for your words of wisdom! I took Bodi on Tuesday. He was excited when I pulled into the parking lot, but not so excited when I left. The place keeps small dogs up front with the workers, and there are two separate sections in the back for medium and large dogs. When I picked him up they told me he spent some time up front with them (he is 27 lbs.) but spent the afternoon happily with the medium… Continue

Maltese Rescue Puppies Calendar

I just got a sneak peak at the cover for the 2011 Maltese Rescue Calendar - the theme is "Puppies Born into Freedom". These are all my pictures and all the puppies were born in our home after their mothers were rescued, pregnant from deplorable conditions in puppy mills. We have had over twenty puppies born into our home this year and just had another born yesterday. We have placed all the pups, and most of the mothers, along with a couple of adult males into "furever homes". The total…

The Dreaded Cookie Party!

This is Fudge checking in this week. My mom is having a cookie party this weekend and she has been doing nothing but cleaning and baking. We are fed up! Vern wasn't here last year for the last cookie party, so he doesn't know what it is all about yet. She says she loves this party, but she yells a lot the week before. Vern is pretty messy, so she seems even grumpier this year. We are bored, so we have been making our own fun and today, we figured out how to knock the gate (well, is it just a… Continue
