Potty Issues

Frustration is my mood for the day. For the past three or so weeks Phoebe has decided that, despite not having gone potty since 11pm the night before, she does not want to go when my son takes her out at 7am. Mind you, she had been doing this beautifully for forever prior to this. He comes in frustrated after about a half hour and I am equally frustrated as I know I will have to rush home after drop off (at school)to take her out again. I know it might sound as if there is an easy… Continue

Luna and Maggie Part 2

I realized I haven't written in quite some time with an update on Maggie and my new puppy, Luna. Luna is 16 weeks old today and is getting tall and leggy. She's a beautiful little girl. Sadly, I have no updated pictures up here yet, but hopefully will over the weekend. Sorry. But I'm sure those of you with doodle puppies know how much free-time one doesn't have. She finally has started allowing me to brush her out. As I mentioned in a previous blog, she would totally spaz out when the brush…

WONDERFUL Vet News & Other Updates

I will try to keep this as short as possible, but I will start out with: I AM SO HAPPY I AM IN TEARS! The good kind!

Many of you know that Peri's "big" brother Taquito barely lived through the dog food/treat recalls during 2007. Barely. During a dental cleaning and bloodwork about 6 months ago, my vet found his kidney function to be at a dangerous level...not kidney failure...but early stages. We are about 99.9999% sure this is a long term after effect of his being so sick…

Update #2 on Wilbur Foster, I mean Orville...wait - who are you dood?

I found out from IDOG this morning that the Athens shelter had all of their paperwork mixed up and that I actually have ORVILLE, not Wilbur. However, if he doesn't respond to "Orville", I'm renaming him "Wilbur" - I think it's an adorable name! I wondered about this, as this dood looked nothing like the one from the Athens shelter! Below is a picture I took of him yesterday at the vet.

Orville/Wilbur spent a comfortable night at the vet. The great news is that he is heartworm…

Haley’s Annual Vet Visit

What an adventure/ordeal. First I cooked and cut a chicken tenderloin into small pieces to take along. Then combed Haley’s coat so he would look his best. After fastening him into the back seat of the car we started out. Down our road to the corner, turned on the next road – so far so good. Got to the two-lane highway and turned on to it. Then came the oncoming traffic – the reason for the chicken. (Haley lunges at oncoming traffic as it passes our car on two-lane roads! ) Bam (he lunges at the… Continue

Need Transport Help Tomorrow AM in Oklahoma!

We need someone to help the DRC pull 2 doodles from a shelter in Oklahoma City and then meet Kim in Pauls Valley - app 1 hour South of OC down I35.

Kim Konradi, Texas DRC Regional is driving up from Dallas to pull another doodle from a shelter in Pauls Valley and then has to drive back to Dallas so if you can help you would be saving her several hours of driving.

If you can help, please let me know asap!

Thanks,

Adrianne

Making Dreams a Reality.

As you all know, we have been considering getting a second dog in the near future. I have researched, and I believe I have come to a decision on what we are looking for. A Standard Poodle, preferably apricot, red, or brown. There are three breeders I'm considering... but I can't bring myself to be put on their waiting list.

Darwin is really an easy keeper. He's going through his little rebellious stage, but it is nothing we can't handle. He is very submissive, no behavioral… Continue

Beemer Update - Week 3

We are now at the end of week three and Beemer is amazing! He is walking without a limp and is very hard to keep down. The rules are that he is allowed very little activity but he can walk around. Yep, try to tell a doodle that everything that is fun in his life is off limits....running...jumping....playing tug....resting on anything that is above floor level.... But he has been very good about it all. His scar is healing nicely...in some spots almost gone.

I was thinking this morning… Continue

Update on Wilbur, the Foster Doodle

This morning, I drove up to Athens, GA to pick up Wilbur. I had agreed to pick up Wilbur when they opened at 8am today, so I got an early start. I got to the shelter before they opened - can you say anxious and excited? The shelter really put the fear of G-d in me with the amount of space they had available and I felt bizarrely worried that if I got there late, I'd be too late (I know that would be unlikey, but I had the angst nonetheless!).

Once the shelter opened, they let…

GUINNESS'S FIRST BIRTHDAY

Today is Guinness's actual birthday, but we had the little party last night so our local grand kids could come. My little Emma is 6 and already a Doodle lover. She adores Guinness, and he's always been so sweet with her. I was really wondering how it would go with Murphy. He's a young puppy who is totally full of life, so I had visions of him jumping and nipping. Never happened. The video is actually a little longer than it should be because I was so blown away with how Murphy behaved with the… Continue

Two dog parks in two days... Talk about pooped pooches.

My guys are still sacked out. On Sunday we met up with Frannie/Callie, Judi/Timbow, Krista/Angel and Sue/DH/Finley for a play date at Lewis Park in Marietta. A great time was had by all. We kinda-sorta met another Goldendoodle, but I think all of us gossiping women scared off Kody's (?) dad. It was a very enjoyable 2 hours of convivial conversation and lots of doodle romping.

On Monday I was suffering from cabin fever big time; so I grabbed the pack and headed to the Leita Thompson… Continue

I love my boy!!!

He is soooo good. I took a walk today, like I always do, with Samson, in the camp. As we were walking, down the road was a mom and her two little girls, I mean, little like, 2 years and 4 years old. She could not believe how CUTE Samson was. She told me they had a St. Bernard that got epilepsy so bad, they had to put him down. She was heart broken and was thinking of getting a new dog soon. She was impressed by Samson. He sat, she pet him, he gave her his paw. The kids pet him…

Excited and had to share!

I am picking up my first foster doodle (through IDOG) tomorrow morning in Athens, GA. I am beside myself with excitement! His name is Wilbur and he's a beautiful chocolate dood (at least I think he will be, once he's had a good bath!).

Of course, this could be a disaster, but I'm just really excited!

The Lucy and Sophie Salon is Open For Business!

Got the tub all installed and gave first baths a couple weeks ago, so it was time for the next step. Today the new grooming table arrived and looks like it will work perfectly for getting them in and out of the tub without lifting! Lower and they jump on, raise and they jump in the tub! Already have some dirty, haircut needing doods, so if we just had a Doodle Mom that knew how to groom Doodles we would be all set! They might look a little funny for awhile, but we will figure it… Continue

Only cost $5 Extra to get what I did NOT want!

Rosco went to the groomer once when he was about 5 months old. It was mostly just to get cleaned up...not a real 'hair cut' session. It went well, but I decided I'd do it myself. And I did for about 3.5 years. Before baby arrived I took him to PetCo for the first time to get 'cleaned up' again. Happy with the results and lacking 3-4 hours to spend grooming, I took him there again this Sunday. This time Clark, who likes Rosco long and shaggy, agreed it would be okay if he were trimmed down… Continue

DOODS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN!!!

Well it's day two. Today it was Guinness who got up at 6:00...he wanted us to let his brother out of the crate so they could play. DH took them out to go potty and then they "joined me" in bed. Have you ever been licked to death by two Doodles at the same time while you're trying to sleep? Doodle tongues all over my face....very wet Doodle tongues. I figured that was my "cue" to get up.

I used to wonder and worry a little about whether I could love a new dog as much as I loved… Continue

Sheila-Joys, Toys and Oh My's

Sheila the pipsqueak is coming into her own. My DH takes her out at 6:30 an then she will stay in the crate until 7:15. Then it's a quick out and the day begins. She is growing fast, especially her legs!! She is still a picky eater. No stomach problems, just not all that interested in dog food. I try to mix cheese, yogurt, dry, wet Innova dog food, but some days she eats right away, some days just not interested. I usually train w/ real chicken or salmon later in AM, which she loves. But I'm…

Sophie's New Doctor

After our last Vet experience, I wanted to find a clinic with a little higher standards and a lot closer to home. So I asked all my dog-loving friends and was referred by several to a clinic in a nearby small town. I checked them out online and made an appointment. Sophie's feet had not gotten any better and in fact were more tender and sort of soupy looking between her pads. Also she had a slight rash on her abdomen. I was concerned that these things had not resolved with the grooming and…

Sophie Visits Granny

My parents are animal lovers but they love animals outside. Growing up in rural eastern Kentucky we had dogs, flying squirrels, etc. But they were not indoor pets. My dad has had numerous dogs. All of which he loved and spoiled. His current dog "Ho" (I have no idea of the origin or meaning of this name) is a great dog. Ho is a mixed breed mutt that he rescued during a fishing trip, Dad and his fishing buddy put the boat in on a little island at the lake. Three little puppies had been dumped…

Phoebe's Floppy Ear

I took Phoebe in this morning for her annual vet check plus I had suspected she might have an ear infection. Of course, she does...the poor thing. Interestingly, it was the odor that made me concerned as she was not scratching or whining at all to alert me to what was bewing in that ear canl of hers. She is now on a two week course of twice daily ear drops. She also had two shots, blood drawn and her bordatella nasal drops. I cannot believe how wonderfully she behaved--not so much as a whimper… Continue
