I realized I haven't written in quite some time with an update on Maggie and my new puppy, Luna. Luna is 16 weeks old today and is getting tall and leggy. She's a beautiful little girl. Sadly, I have no updated pictures up here yet, but hopefully will over the weekend. Sorry. But I'm sure those of you with doodle puppies know how much free-time one doesn't have. She finally has started allowing me to brush her out. As I mentioned in a previous blog, she would totally spaz out when the brush…

I will try to keep this as short as possible, but I will start out with: I AM SO HAPPY I AM IN TEARS! The good kind!
Many of you know that Peri's "big" brother Taquito barely lived through the dog food/treat recalls during 2007. Barely. During a dental cleaning and bloodwork about 6 months ago, my vet found his kidney function to be at a dangerous level...not kidney failure...but early stages. We are about 99.9999% sure this is a long term after effect of his being so sick…

I found out from IDOG this morning that the Athens shelter had all of their paperwork mixed up and that I actually have ORVILLE, not Wilbur. However, if he doesn't respond to "Orville", I'm renaming him "Wilbur" - I think it's an adorable name! I wondered about this, as this dood looked nothing like the one from the Athens shelter! Below is a picture I took of him yesterday at the vet.
Orville/Wilbur spent a comfortable night at the vet. The great news is that he is heartworm…

We need someone to help the DRC pull 2 doodles from a shelter in Oklahoma City and then meet Kim in Pauls Valley - app 1 hour South of OC down I35.
Kim Konradi, Texas DRC Regional is driving up from Dallas to pull another doodle from a shelter in Pauls Valley and then has to drive back to Dallas so if you can help you would be saving her several hours of driving.
If you can help, please let me know asap!
Thanks,
Adrianne

This morning, I drove up to Athens, GA to pick up Wilbur. I had agreed to pick up Wilbur when they opened at 8am today, so I got an early start. I got to the shelter before they opened - can you say anxious and excited? The shelter really put the fear of G-d in me with the amount of space they had available and I felt bizarrely worried that if I got there late, I'd be too late (I know that would be unlikey, but I had the angst nonetheless!).
Once the shelter opened, they let…

He is soooo good. I took a walk today, like I always do, with Samson, in the camp. As we were walking, down the road was a mom and her two little girls, I mean, little like, 2 years and 4 years old. She could not believe how CUTE Samson was. She told me they had a St. Bernard that got epilepsy so bad, they had to put him down. She was heart broken and was thinking of getting a new dog soon. She was impressed by Samson. He sat, she pet him, he gave her his paw. The kids pet him…

I am picking up my first foster doodle (through IDOG) tomorrow morning in Athens, GA. I am beside myself with excitement! His name is Wilbur and he's a beautiful chocolate dood (at least I think he will be, once he's had a good bath!).
Of course, this could be a disaster, but I'm just really excited!

Sheila the pipsqueak is coming into her own. My DH takes her out at 6:30 an then she will stay in the crate until 7:15. Then it's a quick out and the day begins. She is growing fast, especially her legs!! She is still a picky eater. No stomach problems, just not all that interested in dog food. I try to mix cheese, yogurt, dry, wet Innova dog food, but some days she eats right away, some days just not interested. I usually train w/ real chicken or salmon later in AM, which she loves. But I'm…

After our last Vet experience, I wanted to find a clinic with a little higher standards and a lot closer to home. So I asked all my dog-loving friends and was referred by several to a clinic in a nearby small town. I checked them out online and made an appointment. Sophie's feet had not gotten any better and in fact were more tender and sort of soupy looking between her pads. Also she had a slight rash on her abdomen. I was concerned that these things had not resolved with the grooming and…

My parents are animal lovers but they love animals outside. Growing up in rural eastern Kentucky we had dogs, flying squirrels, etc. But they were not indoor pets. My dad has had numerous dogs. All of which he loved and spoiled. His current dog "Ho" (I have no idea of the origin or meaning of this name) is a great dog. Ho is a mixed breed mutt that he rescued during a fishing trip, Dad and his fishing buddy put the boat in on a little island at the lake. Three little puppies had been dumped…
