Today DH, Quincy and I went for our sunday walk and game of fetch. We remembered to bring the ball but not the launcher. I throw like a girl and my DH can't throw far enough to make it enough of a challenge for Quincy. We found a broken branch that would work as a bat and started our own baseball team. My husband was the pitcher, I was at bat and Quincy played the outfield. Apparently I not only throw like a girl, I bat like a girl too and soon lost my turn at bat. I am a better pitcher than…

I just noticed that Matthew has an adoption pending. That is really great news, hope everthing works out and he does well with his treatment. Good Luck Matthew, you deserve a great life.

It's beginning to warm up in Texas, so I've been walking Shelby in the morning and evening (as the sun goes down). This morning was one of those mornings when it would appear Shelby (who is almost 6 months) has never had any obedience training. The birds, the blowing leaves and everything else seemed to be too exciting for her to exhibit any self control during about 1/2 of our walk.
Shelby decided to take her dietary needs in to her own hands this morning. She ate a dead…

But this was very different than the usual opossum encounters we have every spring & summer. DD went to the garage to get something out of my car. She came back in the house to tell me there was a baby opossum in the garage. Because we have a cat door installed we always get young opossums this time of year taking advantage of an easy dinner of cat food. But this time it truly was a baby opossum. I could hold it in one gloved hand. It was pretty obvious that the little guy was too young to…

I had a kind of bad experience at the vet today. We took Darwin in for a routine check up, and the Vet Tech said something that made me so mad!…

Samson met his first relative. My mother in law and my neice stopped by the campground today. My mother in law is in LOVE with Samson (Samson visits her retirement village apartment every once in a while) and she just thinks he's the greatest dog! So, when my niece visited and brought her new puppy Adelle, she could not wait to get them together. Samson has not met many dogs yet. And has not had a play date with one, or has never gone to a dog park. He just… Continue

I'm sure you are all getting really sick of my blogs by now. Who could blame you...I'm a little sick of them too. Things just keep happening....LOL. Today was our second Therapy Dog "practice session" at the Alzheimers Facility, and today Guinness and I were on our own (no trainer). When we got there we saw many of the same patients we had originally met last week. Guinness seemed to be very calm and happy today...tail wagging from the time we went through the door. I was also feeling WAY more…

Today I took to Chewie to an animal shelter event and it did not go well. There were lots of other dogs which means tons of distractions. First of all, I know that a fairly well trained dog in my home is not the same as a well trained dog in any situation. But today it was like Chewie had never been taught any commands at all. It was really pretty embarrassing. He would not even sit for me. It was like he was in another world. I got so frustrated that we did not stay very long. I believe…

So my son Quinn doesn't like the new cut... in his words, "He looks stupid" but I really do like it. It is much shorter than I asked for but I figured that just means I can wait a long time before we go back. I love that I can see his face now and I think it is a great summer cut (even if it isn't at all summer like around here yet... darn it!)
So here are a few before pics for fun:

Pretty sure that is a fleece coat! Sammy is 6 months old…

I'm sitting here waiting for the carpet steam cleaning guys to show up...you know, that 4 hour "window". I sent the boys to Daycare because I thought that it would be too crazy around here, and now I'm missing them. I don't know what to do with myself...so here I am on DK living vicariously thorough all of you. The Doods are usually my "entertainment". Yesterday's "show" still has me laughing. There was a big black ant that got in through the front door, and he was crawling across the floor in…

Duncan and I go to the dog park frequently as I posted about my addiction a few months ago.
Well I am happy to report that two great things have happened.
1. Duncan now plays with big dogs too. (he was usually only interested in smaller dogs) It's been wonderful to watch him gain the confidence to chase a boxer or a husky or a mastiff even. I giggle every time. I knew it'd be hard for him to find his place in the middle. He's too big for the little dogs. He's 25 pounds and really a…

This isn't exactly doodle related, but I think you'll enjoy it anyway....
Last spring we got three duckings. They were so much fun to watch grow!

Near the end of the summer the female started laying eggs, but she was too young for them to be fertilized. This spring she started laying eggs again but THIS time she sat on them! It's been nearly a month and I really thought they were all "duds." Last night Alyssa came running in the house…

Doggy Daycare is something that Jacob and I have tried very hard to research. We have tried four or five different places looking for good, safe places to leave Darwin. I know many people are opposed to leaving their dogs at daycare, but it really works for us and I feel that it is beneficial to Darwin. He gets socialization in a supervised environment, gets exercise, and loves it a lot. We both work and I know Darwin would rather play with pups all day, than sit in his crate for a full eight…

It's Becky's daughter once again. Tucker, the cute but bad one, has been acting very strange lately. Now, since I want to be a vetinarian's assistant when I grow up, I gave Tucker a check-up. I seem to have a special connection with animals and I usually know exactly what's wrong with them, but this time, Tucker was acting different and I couldn't understand what he wanted. I soon found out that he had an ear infection (that explains the bad smell in our house!). His ear was, well, I'm not…

I just have to wonder if there are any Agnes Scott alum on this network. My daughter will be going there in the fall, and we have found ALL Agnes Scott current students and alums wonderfully supportive of current and future students. Allie would choose a college with a DOG as the mascot. Seriously, Agnes Scott is an incredible school and wonderful opportunity for our daughter. The doodles are going to miss their favorite girl terribly!…

I've decided that if I ever rescue a female doodle, or have an opportunity to name one, I'm going to name her Fontella, after Fontella Bass. She sang that song, Rescue Me, in the '60s. Get it? I'll call her Telly for short. I think it's terribly clever. These are the things I think about as I'm driving and changing radio stations.

There's a small, local store here with a sign out front that currently reads:
Strawberries
Asparagus
Poodle and Schnauzer Puppies
It's almost always something similar to that, too. I think one time it said "Fertilizer, Birdseed, Ferrets." It's basically a landscaping and feed store, but they obviously have some animals for sale periodically. Years and years ago, before I knew much about puppy mills, and I assumed that only large corporations purchased dogs from puppy…

So Saturday was the Middle TN Doodle Romp! The big red doods were there in full force: Astro was of course there and even Timbow's family came up from the Atlanta area for the "lovefest" as I called it (since both are pretty much Peri's boyfriends - LOL)!
The day was just gorgeous - no clouds and about 70 and sunny! Peri played tug-o-war with both Astro and Timbow at different points during the day:…
