They Really Do Know Come!

We have had several beautiful weeks here in Ohio, and by beautiful, I mean "DRY". The yard is no longer wet and muddy from all the snow and rain etc. Lucy and Sophie have been getting outside to play everyday. Our back yard is like a lake when it is raining and they love to dig in the water and mud, so they don't get to play all that much in the winter time. So, when I would call them to come inside it was always an ordeal getting them to COME. They just ignored me. Now that they are getting to… Continue

Spring?

For all you guys who are sitting around in your shorts and flipflops just thought I'd let you know I have a wee bit of envy. Just came in from outside where Quincy was doing the zoomies in our nice fresh snowfall. The calendar says it spring, I think it lies.

Penny is one year old today!

Hi everyone

This is the first time I've posted since January 1st....Sheesh! I've been a little busy and not really had the time, my apologies, but it's Penny's first birthday today so thought I'd better step up. Besides, I promised Michele Barton I would, and I do like to keep my promises. Actually, I suppose it's Penny's second birthday as the first one was when she was born, how confusing is that?

Soooooooo, she is one year old already, where did the last 12…

Tug-A-Jug Toy

I had read previous posts on here about the Tug-a-Jug, so I knew i didn't want the rope tug-a-jug. So I ordered the tug-a-jug from a online site that showed a picture of the rubber tug-a-jug (i think it is rubber). To my disappointment when i opened the box there was the rope tug-a-jug. Do I send the rope one back and keep searching for the rubber one? Which one holds up better, and where would i find a place that sells the rubber one? I read on here that someone suggested Amazon.com so when…

Back to the Vet Today! UPDATE

We headed back to our vet again today (Phoebe recently finished her meds for an ear infection, had her re-check and then headed back to the vet a week or so ago for a bout of vomiting!)--whom we see more than I see my husband it seems--as Phoebe has been gnawing on her left front paw off and on for two days. At first, I did not know what to make of it as she was running/walking/jumping without issue so I decided to watch it for a day. This morning, she was chewing on it again so I called the…

Bocker the Labradoodle SpokesDog for Dogs In Party Hats Invites His Friends to Enter This Year's Contest

Beginning with International Guide Dog Day on April 28th of this year, dog owners across the country can “unleash” their imaginations in a whimsical contest called “Dogs in Party Hats” that doubles as a fundraiser for the internationally accredited nonprofit guide dog school Guiding Eyes for the Blind, headquartered in Yorktown Heights. The event, now in its second…

Our Furry, Four Legged House Guest.

This last week, Darwin's friend Muppet came to visit. I was really excited to see what having two dogs was like, and I knew Darwin would love the non-stop play!

Having two dogs, is very different from having one. It actually took me off guard, how much of my daily routine it affected. On the up side, it's fun to see two different personalities. Also, Darwin got MUCH more exercise when he had a pup to play with all day. They mainly entertained themselves, etc. On the downside, twice… Continue

Sir Riley, the careful one!

Went on a long walk Sat. with a Rescue Golden Retriever group. Was about 3.5 miles long. Riley has always been gun shy with strange noises, sounds and new sites/ circumstances. Probably because I do not take him out on leash as much as I should; I really think this walk really helped him. With all the dogs in the walking group and all the bikers, joggers wizing by, new sites and foot traffic: he was getting numb to all the hub-bub half way through the walk. Looking forward to another nice day… Continue

How Can Doodles Be So Different?

The Doodle "breed" has always fascinated me for many reasons. I think what has intrigued me most is how different they all look and how varied their personalities are. With my past dogs there were some basic "breed specific" traits, although they each had their distinctive personalities. Now that I have two Doodles...both ALD's, I'm completely amazed by how different they are in just about every way. I really see nothing that I would consider "breed specific" traits. Most of you already know… Continue

It's official - Callie's a pudgester

Callie went to the vet on saturday to get her shots and yearly exam. I took Wilbur along to weigh him (ok fine, to show him off!). Since I got Wilbur, he has only gained 3 lbs. Callie on the other hand has gained 4 lbs.

Not so good. She is officially overweight.

I've tried feeding them separately and that doesn't seem to work. If anything, Callie is MORE active with Wilbur around.

I'm going back to trying separate feedings and hope for the best. I…

How Can They Grow So Fast??

Sheila is growing so fast, but it seems like she is all legs, alot like when my daughters were pre-teens. And she is getting braver also when we walk at the park. My DH laughs though because is Sheila gets frightened, like when she was sniffed by loose boxers, she runs behind my DH legs, then when the "danger" has passed, she barks at the offenders. She is fine at daycare with the other little dogs, and when she comes home we call her "dead dog" because she hardly moves for the rest of the…

A Year Ago Today - Update

A year ago today Jess continued his recovery at Mayo Clinic. We learned that his heart functioned at 20 - 25% and would most likely not improve due to the damage he endured. We really had no idea where he would be today.

Yesterday Jess enjoyed taking our Phoebe to the monthly Doodle Romp. Afterwards we took the pups to a Starbucks and enjoyed some coffee on the patio -- it was a beautiful spring day.

Jess is even back to work, but no longer…

Smart dood

Yesterday the UPS man delivered a package and rang the doorbell. Before I could get to the door the bell rang again. The doods and I went to the door -doods sat down on rug as instructed and I opened door. Package on porch, but no person. Suddenly both doods shoot out the front door - notice that I did not title this obedient doods. Roo returned immediately to "Roo come". Tigger, however had vanished from my site. I stepped onto the porch and there he was visiting my next door neighbor,…

Hanging with the big dogs today!

Went on a 3.5 mile walk

with Sir Riley today. Sponsored by Golden Bond, a Golden Retriever

Rescue group, but all dogs were welcome. There were about 18-20 dogs

mostly Goldens. Cars where slowing down and pointing at Riley within

the cluster of goldens. Walk was in Sellwood and went down to Oaks

Bottom and refuge. Very nice day, long walk for Riley and I, but we

really enjoyed it. As I am posting this Riley is asleep…

Toby - the Swimmer?

We went on our first off leash hike today, with my son, his girlfriend, and her golden retriever, who is Toby's best buddy. The dogs had a great time. Then we came to a pond. Toby has never been near a body of water before. The golden was puddling at the edge, so Toby went down too. Then, before I knew it, he ran in and just kept going! He was swimming straight across - and this was not a little pond. I must say, my heart jumped into my throat. I had good quality treats in my pocket, and was…

My Horrible, Horrible Scare

Something truly frightening that happened to me last week. It really made me stop and think about how much more careful I need to be about my pup's safety.

Darwin loves to play with a yellow lab named Mauii that lives at our apartment complex. We wanted to find a place at our complex that we could let them play off leash, so we didn't have to drive 20 minutes to a dog park. I doubted we would be allowed, but thought I'd give it a go. I asked our landlords if…
