doodlefish

I thought I had a doodledog, turns out I have a doodlefish! Lizzie is 4.5 months old and took to the water like she has been swimming forever!

The pool got opened up this week and Lizzie followed my 10year old cousin right in! The three big labs are SCARED of the water, but Lizzie had a ball! You can see her teasing them about not getting in the water.

Here is the pictorial blog of Lizzie's water adventure today.

Summer Temps - No Pool for Penny

Summer is poking its head around the corner here in Arizona, with temps at 100 degrees the last couple of days. You would think that Penny would be diving into the pool at the first opportunity, but she's just not a water dog. Well... she does love the sprinklers, but only likes to hang around the pool while Ron swims and does his exercise. It would be fun to see her swim, but I have to admit that I appreciate not having her smell like wet dog all the time!…

Females cycling together - for ladies only.

This is a funny thing. Lizzy came over because she was in season and there is males at her house. We don't want any accidents. This caused Fergie to come in also (1 1/2 months early). Now I know females will cycle together and this really didn't surprise me. But what did was - I'm 52 yrs old (get it.) I haven't had my period for 7-8 months. I also got my period! Now that p***** me off.

Battle for Alpha Dog....

Well, we brought Boomer home last night, he is our 14 yr old GR. Um, not so good. Fozzy immediately started mounting him and growling at him. Every time Boomer would lay down, which with his health is constantly, Fozzy would stand over Boomers head, with him privates right over Boomer's face. Ugh, this kinda pissed me off. My poor dear GD doesn't deserve this type of behavior. He is old, weak and could possibly have cancer. I am taking it kinda personally, I know. So, Fozzy and Boomer were at… Continue

Alarm clock Doodle

How many of you have an alarm clock Doodle? Mine goes off at about 7:15 every morning no matter what time we go to bed and I do not need to get up that early. He is big enough to lay his head on the bed and look me in the eye, while he is standing up. Wish I could capture a pic of that, never mind no morning pics of me. DD comes out this morning and says "you are up early today". Okay what land does he live in, this is the norm. We are both retired… Continue

Doodle Daddy comes home...

After having lots, and lots, and lots of pictures taken this morning, I will be back for a six month follow up. Jess was waiting for me and I was feeling over abused. Let's just leave it at that.

Jess was in good spirits and ready to go when I arrived. His body and mind were ready to go, nothing else. I packed up and took a few trips to the car. The discharge nurse arrives sometime after Jess's lunch and went over his twelve medications (that must be individually… Continue

Groomer Needed for mini goldendoodle

Can anyone recommend a groomer in the Pittsburgh area that would be good to give our mini golden doodle a summer cut? We don't want him to lose his goldendoodle appearance. Any thoughts? Thanks!! Jim

Realizing Dirk's Dream

In January of 2000, Dirk and I were "looking" at houses. Not to buy at the time, but scouting for our future purchase. We knew that our current house, one we loved, would eventually be too small for our family. At the time we had a two month old son, Jim. One beautiful, sunny, bitterly cold afternoon we drove past a small cape cod style house with a very large yard. Dirk was hooked. We looked at the house. Yes, it had 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths, but two bedrooms were upstair and 2 were… Continue

All Good Things Must Come To An End

Since Fozzy came with me, he has been going to the office with me. I finally started leaving Fozzy Bear at home for the first time yesterday, the first time in three months. It was a short day for me since I needed to have my water heater replaced. So, his first day he was home alone for 6 hours. Today, it will be for 8 hours.......gosh, I feel so bad. He is with me so much, I have never had need to crate him, so I have him confined to my master bathroom. Tomorrow, my 14 yr old GR will be home… Continue

A Vet's Article about Bloat - a must read for everyone! We can always learn something new

by Elise M. Atkinson, CVT

GDV: A Silent Killer

Gastric dilatation is when a dog’s stomach fills with excess gas, fluid, or foam. A dog with gastric dilatation looks like it has swallowed a large balloon. Although it causes physical discomfort, this type of bloat doesn’t last long and may go away on its own.

A dog with gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV) also looks “inflated,” but after the stomach fills with gas, fluid, or foam, it turns or torses. When the… Continue

Gingerales road to NJ

We picked up Ginger from her VA breeder on Dec 4, 2005. She was a spectacular puppy. Her coloring was rich and coat shiny, her temperment was energectic, playful and responsive. We noticed on the 4.5 hour ride home that she seemed to be a bit wet, we figured it was the paper in the cage moving around. We stopped often to let her out & change her bedding.

I then decided to hold her on my lap with a towel for a while. I quickly noticed I was drenched with urine. We asked our vet to… Continue

Ella the Bernedoodle

Well,we accidentally found out that she can swim! This weekend we were walking near one of the ponds in our development and she took off in a run to leap in the water. Under she went and popped up with a surprise look on her face. we were about to jump in after her, but she swam to the bank. Must be the poodle part of her. I don't know if Bernese Mountain dogs like water. Will have to check that out.

Tomorrow, Tomorrow....It's only a day away...

I was getting ready for work this morning and heard this awful clanging. A persistent sound of metal, repeatedly being dropped against the floor, resonating with a pitch off the high ceilings.

Here I am, thinking about tomorrow, trying to focus, thoughts about bringing home Jess, to what kind of noise is this?

Phoebe.

It was Phoebe. (Did some of you already guess that?)

She managed to grab a small Reverware measuring cup. Apart from the fact it is nearly… Continue

Toby's first grooming

We had Toby groomed on Friday. We found a groomer called "Groomer on the Go" who comes in a large vehicle right to the driveway, and does the bath, cut, dry, everything, right there. She did a great job! Now - I will try to post some pictures of the end product. Continue

The Big 1 Year Old!

This is Becky's daughter. Tucker, my goldendoodle, just turned 1 a few weeks ago. He is still being a real bad doodle. He ate my favorite T-shirt! I bought a cupcake for Tucker. I put a little doggy bone on top of it.Tucker snatched that cupcake right out of my hand and consumed the whole thing in about 6 seconds. I am so happy for my ambitious, loving, crazy, big, sweet, furry, and wild dog. I love my big one year old with all my heart! Tucker is awesome!

Mistaken Identity

What breed(s) have your doodles been mistaken for?

I know this sounds like a weird post, but I laugh every time I start to count up the number of breeds Moose (or Mica) has been mistaken for. I've had people ask me if he (or she) is: an Otterhound, a Flat Coated Retreiver, a Curly Coated Retriver, a Portugeuse Water Dog, an Italian Spinoni, and......here's my favorite...an Irish Wolfhound. I commented that Moose was a bit small for the last one and they thought he was a puppy (he's a… Continue

Short leash

No loose lease for Jess.

Jess's surgeon and cardiologist stopped by this morning anticipating that Tuesday will be discharge day. We were told that they intend to keep him on a "short leash." This is fine by me.

Since Jess's heart attack was two months ago, he can most likely begin cardiac rehab the week after he returns home. We will have a nurse come to the home to give him an assessment to determine home services. Jess's brother will come up for the week to assist with… Continue

YES!!! It was the Time!

I started to answer each of you who responded to my blog post of yesterday and decided to just enter another one with the details.

Our baby was born in the wee hours of the morning!!! I was out late (for children) and the kids were at a friend's house. Went to pick them up at 10:30 and 2 of the 3 were still awake!!! The third fell asleep as soon as she knew I was on my way to get them. After I got the children in bed and asleep, I went down to our office to check my emails and DK for… Continue

Crate training at night...do we taker her out every time she cries???

We are on night #12 with our new goldendoodle Wrigley, and I need some opinions about nighttime crate training. So far she hasn't had any accidents in her crate, and we want to keep it that way! The first few nights we had her she was sleeping 3-4 hours before whining to go out. The last several nights tough she wakes up every 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours whining and barking. To this point we've taken her out every time just because we don't want her to have an accident in her crate. I think she may be… Continue
