Tonight on the news there was a story about the rescued animals from Katrina now showing signs of a deadly disease. Has anyone else heard of this and know any more.

Mickey was our first Foster. He was surrendered to Pike County Shelter from Almost Heaven Puppy Mill. He was 4 1/2 months old when I picked him up on July 2nd. He was 7 lbs underweight and so sick with mange, ear infection and kennel cough. This is Mickey when he came home and pictures from this weekend - 3 months later!! Talk about a make over - see what lots of love, food and a wonderful home can do for a Doodle? Makes you just want to cry.

Meet Max......... My grandaughter lives right beside me and is getting a Chihuahua puppy, Max. She will be bringing him home on the 23rd. As you can see he is VERY small. 70# vs 1# -------- YIKES
What is the best way to introduce them, I know SLOWLY !!!!! Remember the bunny incident, I don't want Lucy to think he is a bunny !!!

Who would think that an 82 pound chocolate labradoodle could be the inspiration for reflections on life? I have been the proud mom to Gus, for over three years. During this time he has taught me so much about myself, and about life in general. I love the way he approaches the world around him, and I love his loyal, lovable and sweet nature. He has caused me to reflect on so many things, and I plan to publish it all in a book someday soon. In the…

This weekend I got the chance to attend a dog training seminar. I couldn't go both day 1 and 2, only day 2 but am thrilled that I went even for that. The night before class 2 I got to have dinner with 7 other trainers and a couple others and I was just in heaven ... heehee.
The class was geared more towards trainers and based on a specific method (that Rosco and I did) and I learned a TON! Most everyone there had a dog (or more) with them so they could do some practice with their dog…

Holly is now a bit over 21 months old and weighs about 60-pounds which, although not on the big side for a Doodle, is still a pretty big dog. We had tree trimmers on our property today and last Saturday, thinning the deadwood out of our oak trees and spraying and fertilizing the trees.
Holly was absolutely fierce looking barking at the trimmers through the sliding glass door. However when I brought her out and introduced her to the trimmers; she calmed down and accepted that they…

Our church holds a "Turkey Bowl" on Thanksgiving Monday, which is today. Basically people come, make up teams and play football. Last year I went and watched with Toby, who was 9 weeks at the time. This year I went and took him, and it was a disaster. Our walk over (we live very close), was brutal. Pull, pull, pull. So many corrections, sits, etc., on the way there. And then.....hyper excited because of people and other dogs. He just would not settle down! Pulling, getting up out of a sit,…

So I was babysitting my nephew at my brother's house yesterday..and had my boyfriend Pat stop over with Bentley. My nephew has a puppy, who is isn't too fond of (golden lab)..but who is alot more hyper than Bentley and bites quite a bit..
At first, the two did not get along..Bentley wanted to jump and play whenever my nephew Grant cried, etc. Then after about 5 minutes, he settled down..and was following Grant around everywhere. Grant was petting him, hugging him, and kissing the dog!…

How appropriate, to have our fuzzbutts blessed at Saint Bernard's church. Of course Bandit HAD to get up on stage and show off.

Saturday was the date of the first annual Doogie Days--a fund raiser for our local Humane Society. I decided to bring my two doodles, Mattie and Lyric, to give them some socialization. Little did I know that we would come home with trophies and ribbons!
It started out on a bad note when I saw a woman with a dog that looked a bit "doodle-ish". I had already met a lovely Australian labradoodle (like my…

I'm bummed. I have to go a whole week without my puppies. I haven't been away from them for more than a day since I got them. I am not a happy camper! We are sneaking off to Vegas on 10/17 to get hitched and we can't take them with us as we are flying. I have checked out several kennels.....yuck. I hate boarding! (Although we will be taking them to Florida at Christmas....can't wait!!!! Christmas day is my Sheba's 1st birthday!) Does anyone know of an home pet sitter around Lima, OH? I know…

These are pictures of my boy Boomer taken this morning. With a heavy heart I look at these pictures and wonder if I did the right thing. Earlier this afternoon, we said good bye to Boomer. He was so happy today. This is the very first time I took him to the vet that he wasn't shaking in fear.......first time in 14 years.
The room at the vet's office was beautiful. It was a cozy little living…

When I was at the vet's a couple of weeks ago, she noticed his adult canines were coming in beside his baby teeth. She said we'd check it on the next visit to see if the baby teeth came out. Well they didn't come out and his gums are all swollen. This is causing his adult teeth to come in crooked. So, they must be pulled and while he's under, he's getting neutered. He's just 5 months so I feel kinda bad but she said it has to be done ASAP so he goes in on Tuesday morning.
He's now…

Well how about that, after all the calls of "don't stop the weekly blogs", I then miss two installments and nobody says anything..ha!
I'm back, but I will definitely only be posting sporadically from now on, possibly monthly, but who knows? The only reason being is that now Penny is growing up, there isn't really anything new to report, which although a shame, it does mean life can return to some sort of normality for Jeri and I, especially I, as I have kind of taken 3 months off to…

Many of you shared with me the very frightening story of being Car Jacked about a month ago:

Since that day, I have developed what some might call The Labrador Stockholm Syndrome. JJ
Coach has returned every week and joins me while his Dad does his landscaping job. We…

I was walking Holly in the business section of downtown Escondido yesterday because it is a great place for her to meet people and to get used to traffic noises and other distractions. Suddenly she panicked. There were three of those aluminum colored helium balloons (the type sold by florists and other vendors for birthdays and other occasions) tied to a post and blowing in the wind.
She was terribly afraid of them. I walked a bit down the street to get away from the balloons and…

Well, Peri turned 6 months old yesterday! She is officially a little lady, having been spayed, attend her first doodle romp, start her next level of obedience, and receive a new hairdo. I was pretty nervous about this and told them under no circumstances should they make her have a "poodle doo". I think they did a pretty good job. She had it done during doggy daycare today. DH went to pick her up and she was just hangin' out with the owner (he loves her) instead of getting all dirty with her…

O.K., it is over with. Cimmy was spayed yesterday. I didn't think about how this would effect me. I feel a bit sad. I have just taken away from my baby the ability to have babies. Do I want to be a breeder? NO! I just can't imagine someone taking the ability to have babies from me, so I am struggling with doing this to her.
Maybe it is because she still isn't back to normal. She hasn't eaten anything in two days and I really don't know about water intake. Last night she vomited all…

Last night I ran into my boss and her 2 year old daughter at the park. I had been trying to run into them so Abel could get more socialization with kids. For the most part he was good. He was a little excited with the child running around and squealing and he was still pretty full of energy due to it being the beginning of his walk.
On the weekend I took Abel to the local Petland. He is well behaved in pet stores so far. This is the second time I have taken him to a pet store and he just…

Last Thursday Abel got neutered, got two baby canine teeth pulled, and got his last set of shots. I though he was going to hate us for sure!
When I picked him up at the vet at the end of the day he seemed a little droopy. His tail wagged and that was about all the happiness he could show. Outside the vet he took a pee that must have lasted a good 40 seconds! He must have been holding it all day! That night I waited an hour or so to feed him just like the vet told me. I fed him half the…
