I took Shelby in for her first groom yesterday.... just a puppy groom.... bath, blow dry, razor trim around face and paws, sanitary, ear cleaning and nail trim/grind. I didn't know how she would do. Well, she got rave reviews from the grooming department! They said they would have never guessed that she hadn't been groomed before. Yes, the blow dryer freaked her out at first, but she was fine. Sat still on the table for the razor and nail work! I guess all my work on…

About a week ago Toby got up uncharacteristically early - 6:15 a.m. He woke me whining, which he never does. He sleeps in a crate in our room. I let him out and he raced outside. He did pee, but more than that just seemed to want to tear around the yard. He was hyper! Usually Toby is quite sedate in the mornings, so this was unusual for him. Flash forward ahead to last night. I was woken at 2 a.m. by scuffling around, noises etc. Again I took him out - figured he'd forgotten to pee before…

So, with Easter right around the corner, I dug out my pupcake recipe and will be making Coop and all of the extended family dogs pupcakes for them to enjoy on the big day! The recipe follows. I decorate them with a few turkey bacon crumbles. They LOVE them! And I love the frosting faces when they are finished. :)

I think I am spending too much time on Doodle Kisses. Last night, in the middle of the night, I was taking Vern and Fudge out and Vern bolted out the door. Luckily, he is a little velcro guy and just stood there, but I could not remember his name. I was yelling "here Banjo". I have also called him Murphy, Norm, and what's his name. I am hoping I am just sleep deprived and not losing my mind.

Its spring break and I promised my DD I would take them on a trip. They want to stay in a hotel with a pool. The only problem is that Charlie is not coming. It will be the first time in two years that I have left him home. Lucky for him his Dad will be with him. To Charlie it’s not the same. So we have decided to take flat Charlie with us on our road trip. This will serve a…

My first BLOG on DK!
I am new to DK and I have responded to a few discussions and joined a
few groups. I have been thrilled with the kind welcome messages I have
gotten and am really enjoying reading all the discussions on here and a
few of the blogs as well. What a great site this is!
Anyhow... I wanted to share about our new puppy and maybe others can
join in also if they were also fortunate enough to get a well behaved
pup and I will also…

So....I've started obedience training classes, one on one. It has been really awesome!! I'm very surprised at how much I am enjoying this!! The trainer is a behaviorist also. We train with treats and a clicker. This has been very good and I have learned a lot about how dogs think. I just had my second lesson yesterday. When I arrive at the trainer's home, he has a lot of outdoor cats running around (he lives on a huge farm). Samson goes nuts when he sees them and he told me that… Continue

Well, our boy Atticus went into Beach Pet Hosp. for xrays under sedation today to check for hip dysplasia. Ugh. While we were on vacation I noticed his walking funny after playing with my nephew as well as his favoring his leg a bit after walks and a trip to the puppy park. :-( I just got the call that the vet wants to go over his xrays with me when I go to pick him up. I assume that is a positive diagnosis for it. My poor puppy. I did a search on hear for hip dysplasia posts and joined a group…

When we first got Guinness we decided we would not allow him up on the furniture...except the bed at night for our "cuddle time". A couple of times he tried to jump on the couch, and I told him "no". I really don't think he could have actually gotten up there anyway. It became a "non issue" after that...he just didn't try anymore.
I had bought a couple of Easter stuffed animals for the grand kids, and they were sitting on the daybed in our den. Last night, Murphy was prancing around…

Topper has now been in his new home for a week. Things are going very well. Mom finally left him home alone for a couple of hours and he found a couple of new play toys (a box of tissues and a pair of dads old leather shoes). He is loving the kids and goes and checks on them every night before going to sleep in mom and dads room. He is definitely going to be a water dog as he always wants to get in the bath tub with the kids. He thinks life is good and they sent along a few pics. He is one with…

Dear Doodle moms and dads,
Well, they finally decided upon my name. They took all of your suggestions and wrote them in chalk on the back patio and waited to see which ones got peed on. We peed on all of them!
So then they decided to put names in a hat and pull one out. Ned ate all of the papers - what a baby!
As suggested in the previous blog, they decided to hold an Adina-type contest with a LesPouchs brush to the winner. And the winner - drum roll please ..... ta da…

On Friday, my friend and I left for a 350 mile trip to Rhode Island to pick up my Labradoodle puppy. I was only back from Indiana two days before this trip. We figured we have been in nine states in less than one week. The 350 mile trip took over eleven hours due to the traffic...whew!
Anyway, I picked up our puppy on Saturday and what a cutie he turned out to be. If I can get my daughter to send me the pictures, I will be posting them soon. He was a joy on the ride home, no car…

Right now my Shelby is spending her first night in a boarding facility. I had an out of town wedding to attend today - and it was for a colleauge... so pretty much everyone who helps me with Shelby when I can't get home during lunch or need help with something was also at the wedding. I had to board her for the night... and I am just hoping she is having an easier time than I am. I have to admit I teared up as I left... and could hear her pawing on the glass as I walked away! Shelby is a…

I just had to post something to say how much I love our groomer. Gus went in for his normal grooming appointment yesterday and I really expected him to end up having to be shaved. Well she call us and said that Gus was going to be longer than normal because of some bad mats. Well to my surprise when I went to pick him up he looked like this. She took the extra time to work out all the matting, because she didn't want to shave him since we are still having cooler temperatures…

Ok, so this morning I watched an episode of It's Me or the Dog on Animal Planet which featured a woman in Long Beach and her Labradoodle "Jack." The woman used absolutely no discipline and she let her dog run rampant and walk all over her. In one clip the dog jumped out of a sailboat in the ocean and swam back to shore with her trying to chase it, and in another clip it ran out the front door and right in front of a passing car! It is so frustrating to watch shows like this because these dogs…

So I felt I needed a photo, so I put one up of me, Bruiser and Bailey. I got Bruiser and Baily in September of 1997. Bruiser/Bailey's mother was a purebred Golden Retriever and their dad was a purebred Labrador Retriever.I helped my mom deliver their litter and then spent the next 8 weeks helping to raise them. Then they came home with me and lived happily for the next 11.5 years. They died within 6 weeks of each other from hemangiosarcomas in their right atrium. As siblings, it is not unusual…

Tomorrow it will be three weeks since we made of NJ road trip to bring our Murphy home. In some ways it feels like he's been part of our family for so much longer. He is one of my boys now, and I love him with all my heart. He and Guinness were fast friends, and that bond just continues to grow. They are crazy about each other. Sometimes when I watch them "Doodling around" I just can't help but laugh. They are clowns together. Guinness though has really developed some "older brother" behaviors.…

I posted a discussion in the photography group a while back and asked about how to get Darwin to do more interesting poses. Well, I posted a picture of him sitting and someone told me I should try and get a shot without his leash.
That can be quite difficult because during the daytime where we live, he has to be on leash whenever we are outdoors. (apartment, no yard) Yet if we take him to a dog park, the chance of getting him to sit for a picture is about.. zero percent. The result is…
