The Klein Room

Five weeks.

Today makes five weeks since Jesse suffered his heart attack.

Before Jesse woke up, family and friends occupied a small pocketed area on the second floor of Mayo. We pulled more chairs in. Kathy moved a small square end table to the center and brought snacks for everyone. We waited. And waited. Daily surgeries. Hours. Days. Weeks. There was something about that room that comforted me while my world was falling apart. When the evening cleaning crew returned the table to the… Continue

Puppy biting.....I just have to vent! (want to scream, could almost cry...hate this part)

I have been so completely frustrated with the biting that Dex is doing. I thought about waiting another month before complaining again. However, I also know that I'm not alone in my frustrations and (at some point) it may be helpful to look back at this time and see some improvements. I have confidence that things will get better--I'm not sure it can get worse!

Dexter has acted more aggressive lately. In the week since his training, we have been practicing "ignoring" the bad biting… Continue

How Hartley Redeemed Himself!!

Hartley (15 month F1 LD) was a very very bad boy yesterday!! We went to a local park to play fetch, something we have done many times without incident. And for whatever reason, he ran after the ball, picked it up and ran off with it. He would NOT come back. Everytime I got near him he ran off again, he even teased me by running up to me and stopping before charging off again. I had our new puppy with me (14 weeks old), so I was a little hampered in my attempts to catch him. I was so… Continue

Whose fault is this?????????????????????? Doodles are smarter than you think

First part of the story...............

I have an invisable fence for Lucy. She has had this for about 2 years now. She knows her boundries very very well. I love it. We do not always put her collar on ( I KNOW, WE SHOULD ALWAYS PUT IT ON HER ) We live on 10 acres and have a big pond straight out from our house just across a field. At this time of the year wild geese come and mate and hatch their eggs. Lucy's boundry is not out as far as the pond so she lays and watches these geese. When… Continue

My Kind Of Town...Chicago Is! By Jackdoodle

I was sad because I thought the snow was all gone until next winter! But look what we saw when we woke up this morning!

Mommy was not awake enough to get any pix of me zooming. I was good boy and came to the door when she called me, but I didn't really want to:

One last look. 'Bye snow! Stick around, please, I'll be back!…

Otter Hound

I went to an Agility Trial yesterday where this women told me Rusty looked like an Otterhound. I've never seen one so I didn't know if he did or not. Everytime I saw this woman yesterday she said the same thing "there's that cute dog that looks like an otterhound". So,, I looked it up... and ya know what?? He does sorta look like an otter hound

The Otterhound Club of America says "Otterhounds can make great pets, if -

Too Cute Not To Share

An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard.

I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of.

He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out.

The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept… Continue

You've got it, babe

I woke up fairly early, stared at the ceiling for nearly an hour then called to check on Jess at about 4 a.m.. Naturally, he was awake and he asked for his mask (lung ventilation device) to be removed. He just had the nose cannulas giving him a little oxygen. His blood pressure had been dropping. When I asked Jess if he felt the mask was O.K. to be removed, his response was, “Well yes, you see I have had it on for two weeks.”

He has not been awake for two weeks.

He requested… Continue

waiting for the breeder to tell us the puppies were born

We are counting down the days until our doodle is born. I've had dogs my entire life, labs, retrievers, weimeriners and german sheperds.Keith has never had a dog before. He is excited for what I keep telling him will be a life altering event. Every time he looks at my computer screen it has something "doodle" on it. Reasearching food, looking for toys etc. I have a lot of time on my hands right now, I had my second shoulder surgery in the last 5 months last Tuesday. Thinking about puppy and… Continue

I miss walking Holly...

Walking Holly is one of my favorite past-times. I especially love walking where there are people who always admire Holly. She is a people magnet.

Unfortunately, my walking has been halted by a combination of knee and back problems. I had my right knee totally replaced on February 2ND and that surgery was totally successful. I experienced minimal pain and I was able to walk very quickly. However, my back started causing me extreme pain and halted any type of exercise. I will have… Continue

How much do I feed?

Our 8 Month Doodle, weighing 37 lbs is a horrible eater. We have finally given up on a commercial food diet of either kibble or canned and prepare chicken breast, meat, Turkey etc. with veggies for her meals. She has started to eat again and seems to like being spoiled. Problem is we feed her twice a day and I am not sure how much to feed. .......I am guessing around a pound per day but really have no idea on what to give her. She is an average active pup, runs and plays, I don't want her to be… Continue

Wierd Vet Visit

We took Louie to the Vet yesterday evening to have a re-check, we had a little trouble after his nueter with some swelling, everything is fine now so just needed a five minute visit.

Now bearing in mind Louie is the most friendly dog I have ever known, and wants to play with all creatures great and small. I was blown away when right out of the blue he started growling at a friendly dog in the waiting room. I have never seen anything like that from him! Anyway the dog left and all was fine… Continue

My Fearful Fluffball...

Fozzy was totally fearless when he first came home. Then after about two weeks, he started to show some timidness towards people. He would back away from strangers, hide behind me etc. Then when I was at work, he started running away and hiding under my desk and give a liitle growl. Then it continued with the amount of growl continuing to grow. It happens at bome too. It continued to progress into a bark when a stranger would even come near my office, then a full fledged barking assault, from… Continue

The Hug

Jess had a bad day yesterday. Add to pulmonary edema, a little pneumonia, and strep from in his sputum and a rise in temperature. He had been gasping for air and has been placed on a pressure ventilation device.

When I arrived at Mayo after my stress test, Jess was greeting me with a half raised arm. As I walked over to the bed, he pulled me in, and with the best of his ability gave me a hug and patted my back. His step-mom and son also visited today, but the day was ours. Jess was… Continue

Lucy's first walk on trail

Fergie and I had our first walk on our country trail by the house. It's got 1 1/2 mile stretch with no roads and at this time of year not any other people either. No leash necessary. It was so nice even though it was cold outside. It was fun to watch Lucy (8 wks) chase her older sister. We went about 3/4 mile total. I worked on teaching Lucy to come when called and sit in front of me. She was very hungry and I fed her her kibble as we walked. This worked really good. She's already coming to me… Continue

Kennel Cough !!

Charlie is now 14 weeks, and we have been going to Puppy Kindergarten. There, I learned all about the importance of socialization. Plus, she has some anxiety about straingers, so I was doing my best to socialize her by taking her to puppy social, play ground and started to take her to the dog park, too. Weather has gotten better lately, and it was fun for me, too!

But guess what happend? Charlie got Kennel Cough!!!

I didn't think it was important for her to be vaccinated for it,… Continue

1st therapy visit

Mater did his first therapy visit tonight. He was really a hit with the kids. It is a support group for children who are grieving a loss. I learned a few things to watch for though. He was a little stressed at the new situation, then really excited when other dogs came. He wanted to play and it was hard to keep him calm until the kids came. When they did, he was really good with them and they loved him. However, he was a little to "hands (paws) on" and mouthy. Some of the boys started wrestling… Continue

My 3 year old goldendoodle just suffered from bloat!!!

'Hi Just some info for everyone who has a goldendoodle, my large 3 year old male suffered from bloat monday night and almost died. Luckily he received surgery in time and was saved. He is still in recovery and will takes weeks for him to get back to normal. I would like everyone to be aware of this horrible condition which kills dogs within hours. He was acting very strangely, he was dry heaving, walking around in circles than he went and hid under my deck. He finally came out and collapsed and… Continue

No rest stress test

I did not call Mayo through the night or early this morning as I normally do. I was hoping last night would be the night my guy got some restorative sleep. Phoebe slept well, resting her head in my neck again. I think she must have put on a little weight as I struggled to shove her over.

I had to be at the cardiologist’s office at 7:45 for part one of my stress test. This was the “rest test.” I’d be on my way to see Jess after they released me. After check-in, I decided to call and… Continue
