Importance of the Food Group

I need to blog a little....

I've said it before...I will say it again - the Food Group is such an informative group on DK - may be the best in my opinion. If we had it before 2007, wouldn't it have saved quite a few of us from a lot of grief?

My Taquito (aka Tacky) lived through those terrible food recalls, but now has kidney problems at age 6 (due to chicken jerky recalls - sick for 2 months - almost died). Too young for that. I did feed high quality food…

Mini Labradoodle Therapy Story

I work at Vanderbilt - this is a story I received via email today about this beautiful dood doing therapy work at Vandy Medical Center. I hope I can one day do this with Peri (if she ever calms down LOL)! These doodles are the greatest :)

In Memory...

In memory of Thule and in honor of her life, let's all make sure we hug our doods today! And remember that life is just that much sweeter with our family - human and furryfolk alike. Go home and hug-a-dood or chi, or lab, etc.....

And also remember to keep your hearts open and thinking of Clark, Adina, Cass, Rosco and Natalie. It is because of them, and especially their first doodle, Thule, that we have this wonderful network of DK friends.

Snuggie as a Straight Jacket?

So my sister gave Peri a snuggie for Christmas. It has been pretty cold lately and despite our efforts to walk Peri enough, she is going a little stir crazy. Adolescence has hit and she is back to zoomie time :)

Sister brought over the snuggie Saturday while Peri was in mid-round-the-house zoomie. I got her to come and put that on her. I am not lying when I say that she immediately calmed down and went to sleep. This is where she passed out (under computer cords??):…

Peri at 8 Months - almost perfect :)

I know a lot of us come to DK to ask questions about problems we are having with our doodles. Instead of that, here is a brag report on how our Peri is maturing into the perfect Lady at 8 months:

1. Lady P now sleeps all night on her fancy bed instead of the crate. This is a new breakthrough because she has refused to leave her crate at night and if she came out of it, she wandered around too much. On Saturday, she slept until 9 am on her bed - I woke up to her laying on her back,… Continue

Coincidence...OR are doodles really this smart??

Last night was an eventful one. I told this story to a friend on DK and she said I needed to post, so here is your laugh for the day!

Our neighbor has a wheaten terrier named Max. He is 1 1/2 and is best buds with Peri. Peri had a lot of energy, so we invited Max to our place after dinner last night. All was going well until 30 minutes into the playdate. Both Peri and Max got the zoomies. They crashed into a tall, ceramic floor vase and it smashed all over the place (it was huge). I… Continue

Peri Graduated...and health update!

I decided to do a really quick blog to let my friends know about what has been going on since my very sad blog last week.

Peri's cold is getting much better. Her infection is gone, but she still sneezes some and the vet says the leaves falling are making many dogs have this symptom. She is on some good antihistamines and we are weaning her off of them now. She actually went to daycare today and is back to her usual self.

On another happy note, she graduated from her 2nd… Continue

Lady Peri has an Infection and Taquito has Underlying Kidney Disease

Bad day in the Sullivan house....I apologize in advance for a lengthy email.

Since Saturday, Peri (mini doodle) has had the sneezes and a runny nose. I decided to take her in today because her symptoms have not improved and her snot was yellow (so sorry for that nasty description). She had a fever and the cold/virus has turned into a bacterial infection. So she is on antibiotics and antihistamines - I am glad I took her in! The vet said she thought it could have been the dog flu, but… Continue

"Touch" Command

We had a very successful obedience class last night. Last week, DH and I spent oodles of time training Peri to be better at staying in a down position, responding to name, etc... It finally seemed to have paid off, because for once, Peri listened and stayed for quite a while with the trainer in front of the whole class. Usually she is so excited because she loves our trainer and cannot contain herself :)

Last night we learned a new command: TOUCH. This is new to me and seems very… Continue

Peri's 6 Month Grooming

Well, Peri turned 6 months old yesterday! She is officially a little lady, having been spayed, attend her first doodle romp, start her next level of obedience, and receive a new hairdo. I was pretty nervous about this and told them under no circumstances should they make her have a "poodle doo". I think they did a pretty good job. She had it done during doggy daycare today. DH went to pick her up and she was just hangin' out with the owner (he loves her) instead of getting all dirty with her… Continue

Peri is Getting Spayed Today...

Well, today is the big day. I dropped Peri off at the vet this morning before I came in to work. She is getting spayed today! I know it is a routine surgery, but I am still a bit nervous. The car ride this morning was funny...I bought a harness and seatbelt thingy for her to ride in the back. Well, she wants to be up near me. So, she was stretched out with her butt on the back seat and face on the console. So sweet. Then she got carsick and threw up! Then we arrived and she went nutty because… Continue

Scary Evening with Peri

Sunday is my family day...Conor and I take Lady Peri and Taquito for a day at mom and dad's....they play with Cousin Charley and Aunt Lucy outside, while we visit with mom, dad, grandmother and my sister. It is usually a fun day!

Last night we enjoyed a great dinner outside. The dogs were running around having fun. We went inside after dinner to work on a puzzle and have some wine. Peri stayed outside with Lucy (terrier). Lady P is used to being over there and tends to get into my… Continue

Lady Peri Update

Lady Peri is doing so well...she graduated from puppy obedience on Saturday! We are going to start the next level of training with her: "Basic Family Manners", where she will get better about walking through a group of people, not jumping, etc... I do think we will take her on to Canine Good Citizen level of certification once she gets older. She yearns to learn! LOL

I won't bore you with a long blog, but I do want to put some snippets about… Continue

Lady Peri's First Day at Doggy Daycare!

So, DH and I decided to try out doggy daycare today. Peri has started crying when I leave room (even if DH is with her), so I was a little worried about her first day at camp. No worries - she ran around and wanted straight in the playroom. I called her name and she didn't want to even look at me! (she does know the smells because that is where we do training every Saturday)

The owner had to conduct a personality evaluation on Peri, but told me to go ahead and leave because they… Continue

Lady Peri is an Official Dog and Taquito's Kidney Infection is MUCH Better!

Today was a big day at the vet. A few weeks ago I posted a blog freaking out about Taquito getting a teeth cleaning. The teeth cleaning was delayed due to a kidney infection - glad I did the blood work and we caught it early!

Today I took both pups to the vet, which was quite a task! Taquito's white blood cell count in the kidneys was way down, so the medicine is working! And Peri received her 16 week shots. So...she is officially ready to take on the world! We already took a short… Continue

Freaking OUT!

Needed to vent with my DK family - I just left my chihuahua at the vet for a dental cleaning. I know he isn't a Doodle, but he is a very important Doodle Brother to Lady Peri (who does not understand where he is at all!).

I got him when he was 9 months and already neutered, so I have NO IDEA how he is after being put under. I am having them do bloodwork before to make sure he can handle the anesthesia. But I am freaking out about this and broke down at the vet. They told me they were… Continue

And I Was Worried Taquito Would Hate Lady Peri!

My husband and I have now had Peri for 4 weeks. She is 13 weeks old and things are calming down - house training going very well! I was so worried that my 5 1/2 year old chihuahua would be super jealous and not like her. Don't get me wrong, I thought through the pros and cons of getting another dog for a long time (one con being little chihuahua attached to his mama). But I decided to go through with it since he LOVES other dogs, especially his… Continue
