Fergie was 13 months when I got Lucy. Lucy was 7 wks and is Fergie's full sister - Just from a litter a year later. They get along great. Has you dog been very social with other dogs? I dogsat a lot while I had Fergie that first year. She was always so sad when that dog I dogsat for went home. I think that made it so easy when I finally got her a sister that was going to stay. From day one there has been no problems and it really is a joy to watch them play. Fergie is every bit as close to me as she was during that first year. I must say that Lucy is not as dependant on me as Fergie was as a pup and I'm sure that's because she has a canine big sister. Of course we are at different stages in our obedience classes. That is also fun to see. You can't believe what a difference a year makes. I have to keep reminding myself that Lucy is just a puppy - she'll get there. I did have to learn to separate them during training but I've finally got a system for that. At any time after 10 - 12 months I'd go for another dog. I would just want my first dog to be completely house broke before bringing in another. Other than that, I think the sooner the better. You want them to be really good friends.

Hi..
My Coco was about 13 months when we got Sabrina who was 3 months when she came to us. We wanted a companion for Coco and I would have had them closer if possible, but this has worked out beautifully. I found quite the opposite of what your trainer said... Sabrina was here only 3 days when she followed Coco thru the doggie door to "potty" and that was it...she was pottytrained!! I started Coco in puppy behavior classes at 8 months, so she was well trained when we got Sabrina and Sabrina learned more from her example then anything else. I think that if you have problems with your puppies training you might have some concerns, but if your puppy is responding well to your training now everything should be fine and your puppy will be so glad to have a companion...mine are inseperable. I even work on training new behaviors together, they like it better that way! And as far as the bond with us goes, they are both big babies and think they are lap dogs and sleep tucked in between us on the bed!!! Not much room left for humans with 2 60 pound LD in the middle!!!! Good Luck and Have Fun and enjoy them!!

I love the big dog playing with puppy pics.
This is one of my favorite of big dog and puppy playing together. Cirrus was 5 mos. only days after we got him. Nimbus was three.

Hi All,
I have had my first Doodle Hannah at age of 12wks. Problems crate training her were unbeliveable. Mostly because it was at least 10 1/2 years since I had to train a pup, and the housebreaking and going in the crate were big issues. Hannah is so laid back, so calm, just the perfect Lady till she gets in her play mood's, but she would have made the perfect Mommy and just a great dog to own. Now 17 months later I find myself getting another Godlen Doodle "HONEY" and OMG what a terror she can be. She was already 6 months old and lived in a crate at the kennel for those first 6 months. She was scared to Death of everything, and now after two months of working with her, she is finally coming to "ME ONLY" and still shy's away from people. If you go to pet her she backs away, the condition of her coat was horrible, it stunk and had to be groomed twice to get rid of the smell. At the Vet she was diagnosed with possible Scabiei's and Sarcoptic Mange, ear mites, and belly was so bitten up and red. Sorry but I'm in tears just writing this. I almost walked away from this pup the night I went and picked her up, she was suppose to be a pup 8 to 12wks, not in this condition, but my heart just couldn't leave her there like this.I didn't know about the Mange and bugs till about a month later till I could get her into my Vet. I thought she had allergies and was trying to contact the breeder with no success. I never dealt with any kind of Mange ever with pups I had previously owned or pups I ever sold. So now we are treating for this problem with Revolution which is like the most fantastic med you could use on a pup. We are now in the 4th treatment cause she is on double doses a month, and it is finally starting to show huge improvements. Training is still a huge issue with her, she will go outside sometimes, but mostly will use the house as her toilet. Pooping is her biggest issue in the house, she just will not go outside here. She is now getting into everything and needs two sets of eyes watching her when she is on the "GO". Hannah and her get along so well and they play so much together, and both also get along with my son's dog Magnum our American BullDog. And the funniest thing is we also have parrott's so the dog's enjoy eating the bird seed and food the bird's feed them. It's a "ZOO" here from morning to night, but we love them all so much and wouldn't trade anyone for anything.

Hi Everyone! I have an F1 Goldendoodle named Kensi, she is about 8mo old. Currently, I am on the waiting list for an F1B female Goldendoodle to add to my family! I can't wait for Kensi to have a little sister and playmate. Joining this group now is probably a good idea to get some tips and ideas so I am better prepared for the second doods arrival. Does anyone own an F1 and F1B goldendoodle? What types of differences can I expect besides the coat?

Here's a similar photo of Eddie playing with puppy Elmo. They are playing on the sofa right next to me and I never ever got a scratch so he's more in control than he looks. I'd also check Elmo all over and he'd be a bit slobbered on, but FINE! My favorite was when Elmo would be curled up next to me for a nap and Eddie would come and sit on him.

This is my favorite picture of puppy and adult "mouth-teeth" playing. Our Rozee (F1 standard Goldendoodle) was 14 months old when we got Bella (F1b medium Goldendoodle) and they did all the teeth-biting-mouthing possible - and still do. No one has ever gotten hurt. It's a real important part of puppy play. Just remember that when that new kid gives you a "bite" you need to yell OWW as loud as you can. It lets the pup know that you are not a chew toy!

We have just added a second doodle to our family. We already have a 14 month old F1 standard labradoodle, and now have a 10 week old F2 medium puppy. We need all the help we can get as we are having a few teeething troubles with the two of them!

Susan, Our 10 year old lab mix is our care-taker dog (no training). We had an elderly dog when we got him as a puppy and he "cared" for her and alerted us when needed. Since then he has helped "raise" 3 more dogs. He tells us when something is wrong with one of them or, as a puppy if they need to go out. It sounds like Zeke is a care-taker dog also.
